Quote for plastering

Our bathroom is approximately 6 ft. by 8 ft. There's a small vestibule outside it that's 8 ft. by 2 ft. These two spaces, plus the ceilings, need plastering. The quote I've been given is £700 + VAT, which strikes me as a bit on the high side. I've been getting quotes on a 16 ft. by 8 ft. bedroom that are around £350 - £400. These two spaces, combined, are a bit smaller - would the ceilings really add that much on?

Thanks!

yes. a ceiling can nearly double the price.
    Get some gorm.
  • Thanks very much.
  • it dont make that much of a difference!!!!

I wonder why people don't get work, but i know now, by going in too expensive!!! work on the assumption of £350 per room ish.

I'm a plasterer, and get plenty of work, because i'm not to expensive. A small bathroom, would take me a day, including the ceiling and i would probably charge £250 plus materials, a 16 x 8 living room, i would charge arounf £350 including the ceiling plus materials and do it in one day, with two plasterers.

Where abouts are you? i may be able to reccomend someone near you.

We have a small bathroom 6ft 6ins by 6ft 6ins approx. the cost of plastering 4 walls & ceiling according to our quote was £324.00 for the plastering alone. He started at 9am this morning and was completely finished by 1.30am. He's done a great job.
  • thats right--£300 - £350 to skim a room.

Which is fine except the OP doesn't say wether its just a skim or a complete job back to bare brick/blockwork. That would fundamentally change the price n'est pas?

    Cheers

  • Yes of course, but basic skimming is between 300 and 350 a room. If its a massive room then its more. Its a guide for people to use. Someone once quoted my now partner £1000 to skim a kitchen....But obviously people can use and pay whomever they want...

Not a problem - so for my scenario would £700 be fair? Thats actually what the OP is after - confirmation of price. Granted she/he hasn't been back to confirm the scope of work one way or t'other.

    Cheers

We're having our back room done at the moment. About 3.5ft x 3.5ft approximately. The guy is having to do a mixture of bonding, skimming, adding corner beads and tearing the wall back to brick to replaster and it's costing us £1000 including the ceiling. That also includes him cutting and fitting skirting boards then painting the room, ceiling and skirting afterwards. This is in London.

Then that isn't a quote for plastering is it?
