Standing charge is a relic from the past come back
Why is it a relic ? It is no different to having a two tier charging system.
In fact the two tier system is totally illogical, and has been shamelessly (ab ?) used by the energy companies in their price hiking/sleight of hand trickery. In an era when we should be saving energy, the two tier system actually makes energy cheaper the more you use - bizarre !0 -
Why has this been posted again? Made me panic as I thought this was in addition to the earlier rise!0

We'll be switching the heating off in a few weeks anyway! Plus the £180 cashback we got to join EDF more than offsets the hike (£59.40 a year at our current usage). Still glad we moved!0

A daily standing charge can be (and IS) manipulated in exactly the same way. Indeed where a tariff is available in both flavours the effective standing charges are almost invariably the same.
And it is not correct to say that two tier system makes energy more expensive the less you use when compared to a fixed daily standing charge. There is nothing illogical about it.0
