Previous tenant still using address

Wish I'd known that previously. I rented my previous house for 12 years. Throughout that time I received letters from at least 9 different debt collection agencies for a mobile phone bill unpaid by a previous occupier (who had left the house at least a year before I moved in). I kept all correspondence, wrote to each one with a chronology of previous agencies who had been in touch - and asked them a) to stop bothering me and b) not to pass the debt on (this was after I'd returned several letters to each with 'unknown here' on the envelope.)
No surprise when, 6 months later, the debt had been sold on yet again ... Too right I'd have reported them if I'd known I could ...
I found this out because I got so fed up of receiving the letters, I was having a rant at one of the managers of a credit agency who promised me they would never contact me again and advised me of their legal obligations to the CSA.
So I rang the CSA who were very helpful and sent out a pack to show what could be complained about and how to complain.
This stopped most of the mail, but sadly I received another letter last week (5 years on) although the man at the credit agency had far better customer service skills than anyone before - so hopefully they are cleaning up their acts now.0 -
As others have said, your and your partner's credit reports should not be linked to the former tenant. Unless you have become linked - your credit reports will show this - you don't need to ask for a disassociation. A disassociation is simply the name we give to the process of removing any existing financial links between people. If there are no links, there's nothing to remove.
Returning any post to the senders is the most sensible option.

I had a similar sitation with a ocal man who lives at the other side of our village. We kept recieving life insurance policys\bank statements etc for him at our address.
At first I thought they'd just got his address wrong but then thought something wasn't right so I contact the bank\insurers etc and explained. They said don't worry about it we'll contact him and get his correct address but please destroy the details.
After a few months of continually recieving the same letters I simply phoned the bank and insurers up and stated that if I recieve any more letters addressed to this man at my home I will open them and pin them on the local village notice board for everybody to see all of his personal details. They did have quite a bit of a rant stating that 'I can't do that!' and I said 'Who can stop me?'
Never had one since.0 -

this is probably because the same debt keeps getting sold on.
next time you get a letter open it and ring the credit agency tell them the person they wanted moved out over 2 years ago and that they should stop sending letters to your address. note the persons name, the date and time on the letter and keep it for about a year. if you get any further letters ring and speak to a manager saying that if they contact you again you will go to the Credit Servies Agency.
If you get a letter from another company chasing the same debt (ie barclay card or nat west loan etc) ring the new company and tell them you informed XXXX company on XX/XX/XX and that you should not be contacted again, again take a name and date. This stops the volume of letters quite quickly in my experience.
When you are finished with the letters from the agencies shred them. This does not break any law as you are not trying to defraud anyone, just trying to stop the rain forests being killed and trying to keep your sanity.0 -
im abroad but the volume of threats frighten my aging parents who pick my mail up--the aged are less hardened than us and i can imagine real problems eminating from these hounding practices-i repeatedly tell them to just ignore them but they are litterally scared despite it not being their mail box and being my problem--a practice that seems to have become prevalent in the block is people using it as a final address!-naturally all the suspicion falls to me because of my problem!!-the other owners are all senior.-i will try the mps scheme when i can get the names==lots of foreign names and not all were real!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

Did anyone think he could easily re-direct his mail from your address to another address without your knowledge and even if you asked your local Royal Mail sorting office if this was being done the are obliged under Privacy laws not to tell you.....Crazy!!!!
