Even if the debt collectors come round it's not too much hassle. We had one for someone who lived at the property before us and all we did was show him a copy of our lease to prove there was nobody at the house by that name and that was the end of the matter.
I find when you return post with "not known at this address" on it, it tends to stop.0 -
How does Mike expect to collect his correspondence? I know that he apparently expects to be able to fetch his mail from the agent but do you think perhapsthe landlord didn't change the lock and he has a copy of the key and he was planning to let himself in when you are out?0

This is how it should work and is not necessarily how it does work - get yourself onto experian or equifax and look for ALIAS to ensure you and MIKE have not been linked.
Credit agencies are very different as they will hound the address they have for old debts, in this case you need to open the envelope, ring the company and advise them he is no longer at that address - write the name of the person and the date & time on the letter and keep it for a while. some agencies sell debts on but they are legally obliged not to sell on a debt that they have been advised they do not have the correct details for, you can report these agencies to the Credit Service Agency if they continue to hound you.
Wish I'd known that previously. I rented my previous house for 12 years. Throughout that time I received letters from at least 9 different debt collection agencies for a mobile phone bill unpaid by a previous occupier (who had left the house at least a year before I moved in). I kept all correspondence, wrote to each one with a chronology of previous agencies who had been in touch - and asked them a) to stop bothering me and b) not to pass the debt on (this was after I'd returned several letters to each with 'unknown here' on the envelope.)
No surprise when, 6 months later, the debt had been sold on yet again ... Too right I'd have reported them if I'd known I could ...0 -

Yeah, it was this link. When you fill out your credit card details (obviously capital one card) it shows £0.00. You then get two free searches per year, and an email if anything changes.
They also do the monthly "no news is good news" email which is a good idea.
You do have to pay for a credit score though, but you don't need this.
P.s. I never knew about this until my friend told me, it's a brilliant idea!
Oh, it was equifax not experian, sorry.0 -
Just looked on my last credit card statement and it does say:
