Asked to post to a BFPO address?

Hi, a potential bidder has asked if i am willing to post the item - a TFT monitor - to a British Forces Post Office address, which he says will have a uk postcode. i take it it must be a navy base or something.

My better half used to work for a company and they wouldn't post to BFPO address, though she cant recall why.

Can anyone think of any reason why i shouldnt post to one?

items sent (Royal Mail) to a BFPO address usually go to a central address in London, where it is signed for....then its the responsibility of the British Forces to ensure the item reaches its correct destination....

some companies wont send to BFPO addresses cos of the problem in tracking the item...

and I think there is a 2kilo weight limit for some BFPO numbers....

Make sure you send by signed delivery. I have sent to BFPO before. I sent a data cd which I had to send three times as it got lost the first two times. The 3rd time I sent signed delivery & it got there.

Most large mail order companies deal with BFPO - if anything I'd have though they were more likely to be secure as the final hand-over has a much better ID check that any other delivery comapny.

  • like the PP said BFPO mail is sent to london then the army take responsilbilty from there. just check on the bfpo website whats allowed to be posted i sent my nephews xmas present last year with something prohibited in it (sweets) and it was brought back to my house in a car with big stickers all over it saying 'contains banned substances' I felt like a drugs mule or something!
BTW make sure the PO only charge you the postage to london! I used to work at a sub post office and the boss used to try and charge postage to the end destination I.e cyprus, germany etc. Luckily I have family in the forces and knew the score so I was able to correct his 'mistake' lol

Used to live at several BFPO addresses - all of the details about BFPO addreses are contained here.
Forces living in BFPO addresess are often discriminated against unjustly - there is a very good site explaining the problem here.

You are less likely to be ripped off by Forces personnel who still have morales of honesty and politeness - sadly lacking nowadays in so many EBay customers.
  • Hi,
Do you know what the BFPO number is. I might be able to offer some advice.
I can say for sure that there is no actual problem with sending to BFPO, and recorded and Special delivrey items are all signed for in the same way as normal UK addresses.

Make sure you tell the PO it it for a BFPO address before anything else- we lived in Cyprus and my sister sent a book out and she made the mistake of just saying "can I send this to Cyprus please" and she got charged full whack for it! Mind you she is quite stupid.
