Average Cost of UK wedding

My budget started at £8k, think now probably will be closer to £9k - with £4.5k honeymoon on top of that.
Our budget of £8k was pretty much split 4 ways with contributions, his parents have offered us £2k, my parents have given us £2k and the rest we will pay ourselves.
Pleased because we've got enough between us, for wedding and honeymoon, without borrowing or using visa or anything:j0 -

H2bs mum & dad have paid £2000 towards a honeymoon
and we have spent about £4500-£5000
so all in all about £12000-£13000 for our wedding  which is quite shocking looking at it now not very MSE :money: really but not all spent by ourselves which in a way is ok
Think we're in a similar situation, which is proving to be a bit of a shock to me. What kind of numbers was that for, daytime and evening?0 -
Have to confess that ours is coming in quite high - but we have been MSE in various ways despite the cost! I don't want to say the cost really in case I get shouted off the forum, but it still noticeably less than "average" according to that article
All of it we're paying for ourselves, though my lovely mum bought my dress for me!!! :heartpuls
The venue itself has been the biggest cost - but we both totally fell in love with it, thought long and hard about it, and decided we'd regret it if we didn't go for it.
Also been MSE making cards, using ebay for 2nd hand bits and bobs, and I guess the most important thing is only going for what we can afford and hunting round for the best deals .
lol, feel like i'm justifying myself now. I don't intend to ever get married again, so darned well going to make it a good 'un
Well done to all those who are doing it on a tight budget! I'm hugely impressed.0 -

I would't worry what anyone thinks about the amount you spent, it's your wedding afterall.
We've had a similar discussion somewhere else before on here and the point was made that this forum is for saving money. People have different budgets for all sorts of reasons and your not going to get booed off if yours is higher than some (I can guarantee you there will be others on the board with a similar budget to you).
Just because your budget is higher than some others doesn't mean you can't be MSE about it. After all if you weren't then the cost of your wedding would be higher!

I haven't worked it out exactly but ours is coming to between £4500-£5000, thats for everything apart from a honeymoon which we probably wont be able to do until next year, we plan on going on holiday with our children to disneyland for ours. I have saved a lot of money by doing things myself and by doing that I have been able to use the money saved for some extra special things that we would have not been able to afford otherwise, for example my horse and carriage (which I am very excited about!)
I could never imagine spending over £20k on our wedding![STRIKE]Getting married to[/STRIKE] Married my soul mate on

PS - I fully intend to sell centrepeices, dress etc on ebay/preloved after the event to get some of the cash back.
good point, we will be selling just about everything afterwards to get some money back too0 -
Okay I'm only in the planning stages - what the actual costs will be will remain to be seen. But for a 17 guest registry office do on Tuesday 17th July 2012, and an 'aftershow' party for a further 43 (ish) on Saturday 21st July 2012, our budget is £2500. This is not including the honeymoon, as that will cost a small fortune (we're learning to dive, buying our own equipment, and then going off on a diving holiday). (Have put a breakdown of our budget on another thread so I won't repeat it here:) )0

We've set a budget of £5k for everything including the honeymoon! We have just over 5 months to go and are about £1k off where we wanted to be so I'm slightly worried!
H2B parents have offered to pay for the suit hire as they were not impressed with my idea of getting everyone (as in best men and father of groom) to wear their own suit and just buy them a tie in the colour we want!I don't care what they wear so h2b got to decide whether to take them up on it or not!
My Mum kindly paid for my dress too, although I made sure I got one within the budget I'd set for myself anyway!
We have cut out things like wine on the tables, some of the guest list have been moved down to evening invites and we are honeymooning in the UK but we are still struggling and have been planning the wedding for over a year!0 -
I got married in Jan and it came to around £3500 including honeymoon xxxLBM AUG 2009 - Debts £20,000+ Debts now 13,582.06:j Seven Debts Paid Off :jSnowballing to pay debts - Muffin V's Catalogue [STRIKE]£1700[/STRIKE] £1480.000
