Weight Watchers best kept secret?

I go to WW, I pay my money, I follow the diet, I get support from my fellow WW and leader and I lose weight. :T

I am told that the calculation of propoints is a complicated formula based on advances in science, I am told it is tried and tested by experts. I am told I can buy ready meals, snacks and recipe books which are already pointed and calculators and scales and pedometers to help with this secret formla. :A

I am not told that 1 propoint = approx 40 cals and that anyone can divide the calories in any food by 40 and get the number of propoints in food which means I don't need unlimited gadgets.

Some things have to be rounded up just like the propoints and I am sure there are some die hards who will find the exceptions. But its a good guide and you can check your points with your online calculator or wheel at home. :D

It really is much easier and cheaper than using any of the WW gadgets. :j

And here I sit here waiting to be shot down in flames :rotfl:

I can't say for pro points as I believe it is based on sat fat, calories and also fibre and/or carbs BUT yes this was true for old WW points.

In the old system it was as simple as 1 point = 70 calories or 4 grms of sat fat. so a choc bar of 72 cals and 2.1gs sat fat was 1.5 points.

It was never really a secret as it didn't take too much to work it out. Obviously WW do not want to advertise the fact though as they make money!

The reason people mainly go to WW is for the support. At the end of the day WW and any other diet are always a method of reducing calories and fat in a structured, recordable way. Anyone can count calories from home and get the same results in theory but some people ned the support group.

Personally - I am fed up with WW and lost my love a long time ago! I need a new plan and I am struggling to keep myself motivated on my own. Does anyone want to wire my jaw up? I'm even considering returning to 'new' WW as if I am paying for it I tend to keep on track a bit!

    Calories / 70 + sat fat / 4 = points

I used to be fat like you love.

I cut out all the crappy food, ate one main meal a day and at all other times just ate fruit and drank water.

I got to my ideal weight in just 6 weeks.

spugzbunny - But we wouldn't have to work it out if they didn't make a secret of it.

MrsE - Im sorry I don't understand your calculation but total calories / by 40 is easier for me.

SHIPSHAPE - Who said I was fat? I imagine it was lemons you sucked all day.

MRS E - it has changed since they brought in pro points - but yes as I said it was that very formula when I did it.

jetplane I don't understand what you mean? Are you saying they should just tell everyone how they calculate the points? Obviously the reason they don't is because they need to make money. They are a business.

Shipshape - yeh thanks for that. calling poeple fat is just lovely especially if you used to be bigger yourself. Also - eating one main meal a day you say and then only fruit? Not sure doctors would recommend that one but I'll give it a crack!

Yes I am saying they should be more open, then people can make an informed choice. All slimming clubs are run as a business, and very lucrative they are too as it is the minority who maintain their weight loss. But I find WW very hard sell with their products and their new diet has been introduced as new science which it is not. I feel like it is all smoke and mirrors to convince people to buy their new products. My post was just to highlight that there is another way to calculate points when out shopping which has never been mentioned by WW while still following the plan and maintaining the support :)

It may be just me but I always knew there was a formula for the points calculation. There must be or the calculator wouldn't work. I'm sure if you had the calculator to borrow you could quickly work it out.

I agree that WW are a hard sell and that is why I left in the end BUT I think you have to be a bit thick not to realise that it is all based on numbers and values. Even if you can't work the formula out for yourself you could always sign up for one week, get all the points infor and then make the informed choice to leave and do it yourself from home without paying a fee.
