DLA & Concessionary Bus Passes - Hampshire

I am in receipt of Higher Rate Care & Lower Rate Mobility components of DLA and I need to renew my bus pass and I have been told that Hampshire now are only issuing free bus passes for those on higher rate mobility.

Is this correct??

Ricardo.

According to the qualifying criteria on their website, that information is correct.

    http://www3.hants.gov.uk/concessionary-travel/concessionarytravel-eligibility.htm#section447957-2

You may qualify under one of the other categories.

This is crazy - I rely on the buses to get me about as I suffer from a severe and enduring mental health problem and buses are so expensive in hampshire so it looks like I will be spending more time at home to ruminate etc, grrrr

Thats awful. they really are cripplingly expensive in Hampshire and it's not as though they're packed.

I really hope you can get this sorted.

    Thanks Emmarillo,

Annoyingly even if my renewal gets granted I cannot even apply before the 1st April 2011 when Hampshire takes over from Rushmoor who were issuing bus passes to ANYONE on ANY part of DLA as they have changed the eligibility to higher rate mobility too! Grrrr. :(

It sounds like they have been far too generous before!

I just wondered how would a concessionary bus pass help in relation to your mental health problem?

I've got severe MH problems, and I largely agree with you. The only instance I can think of is for those who cannot drive as a result of their condition and/ or meds?

Yup, I cannot drive as my medication makes me oversedated.

So you should qualify for that reason - do you have a DVLA notice to state that you are not allowed to drive?

Never thought of that - I have a provisional licence; should I discuss this with my GP?

Yep, speak to your GP and speak to the DVLA. What meds do you take?
