i got a letter today inviting me to an assessment and interview in a weeks time. This is THE job i have been waiting for and i really want to do well. I will need smart, comfortable clothes as the assessment is in london (i live in east kent) and it could be an all day thing. Does anyone know if the jobcentre will give me a grant to cover interview clothes? I am on flexible new deal. I am really excited about this job interview and really want to make a good impression as this is the job that will get me off benefits and into a comfortable lifestyle finally for good!

Dress for Success in London may help but only if you are referred to them.

Otherwise, try the charity shops for a suit.0 -
the 50 a week pays for my lodgers rent, gas, electric, food etc lol. I may just about be able to afford it myself but it will be very tight as the bloody car has just failed its mot lol0

I also recommend dressforsuccess, ask your Jobcenre advisor to refer you ..it should only be a quick phone call.
They have some really great stuff and the people there are great, it would be a good pre-interview confidence boost.2016: No Clutter to Be Seen 805/2016

you buy your lodgers food?
sounds more like cohabiting than having a lodger.0 -

A friend had the Back to Work Session on Monday and was told by the advisors holding it the budget cuts have been so severe yo uwill need to have an offer of employment before they will consider giveing a clothing grant of up to £50, they are no longer accepting people on the basis of interview only so good luck0

I used to work for a major high street brand as a manager. We accepted New Deal vouchers as a mean of payment. The client would come in and we would help them choose something suitable for their interview, which we would then write down the cost and they would take it to the their job centre advisor who would issue the voucher for the exact amount which would be bought back to us. We were then able to give the clothes to the client.
This was about 4 years ago.
