Anyone ever buy anything full price?

Options
do any of you guys ever buy anything FULLPRICE anymore?

with all the sales on every few weeks now is there anybody left who actually buys full price stuff in between??

i am well known for being a tight ar** in my family but I am also generous with it (she says modestly!)

I have to say I NEVER buy anything full price unless I am desperate or it is a very last minute present.

Most stores seem to be having sales at shorter and shorter time intervals-only just getting over the january sales and M&S, TESCO, ASDA, MATALAN already have their next sale on.

Who needs to buy at full price, why not just wait for their next sale?
Am I only the only one who does this ?????

OMG I've even started doing it with food and groceries! (whoopsie queen!)

Clothes, shoes, makeup, haircare...etc? never pay full price! Can't remember when I last did even if I really try hard to think about it!

Food? about 50% of the time what I buy I cannot find on offer. Though food prices tend to have such high RRP's I am pretty sure the reduced price is what its supposed to be and the money-off-discount is there just to keep the customer thinking they got a good deal.

I can't buy anything full price apart from food. In fact, if I see something for half price, I think I'm being ripped off. It has to be at least two thirds off since I joined this forum and preferably 75% or, even better, for nothing!

I bought a new vacuum when the sales were on, just after the New Year. I actually had to pay about £4 more because of the VAT rise, and it wasn't even in the sale.

Is there such a thing as full price anymore? I think most of the time you will find someone with a sale on, or you can come home and find it cheaper on the net.

I think the trick is not to buy on impulse, make a note of what you want and have a good look around.

I have found the washing machine I want when my current one goes (showing signs, overheated a couple of times, but still going!) and I am keeping track of the price on a weekly basis.

With food, most of the time I shop in Lidl/Aldi, take a trip down Mr T once a fortnight or so for things I can't get there.

I am known for shopping on impulse - so long as I have a month to think about it!!

  • I never buy full price unless i am really desperate. Or like the poster said above its a last minute present but i always keep a box upstairs of bargins i have picked up through this site that will sort out any occasions that have cropped up last minute. I bought everyones birthday presents throughout Jan when the sales were on plus i did my daughters birthday presents too then and Mothers day ready for March. My recent body groupon voucher that cost me 12 quid will get me 30 quids worth of stuff so got my sister in law birthday present and best mates present to get on saturday but whatever is left i will treat myself. By July all occasions are pretty much sorted so then i will start to bargin hunt for christmas. Food shopping i always go through my supermarket and i make a list from the food and shopping board of all the latest offers and deals on so will do a food shop online with Asda as generally i find them cheaper, pick up offers from tescos which is walking distance from me, plus Lidl which is walking distance too. my budget for food is 250 quid for the month and now i very rarly go over, That is for two adults and two children plus a cat. I keep back 30 quid a month for clothes bargins. What i do for that is save it up so when the end of the winter season finishes i pick up all the bargins i need to see my kids and us through the next winter by buying the next size up. Same with summer. Everything i buy is discounted. If i need something urgent in terms of clothes and that i cant wait for then its primark or asda. I also save my tesco clubcard through the christmas saver and top up double in November and that buys my children their special clothes over the christmas season as we tend to take them away just before for a few days. Holidays i book with sun holidays by prority, been lucky as i have been getting the prority code every year. Cheap hoildays and we love them. My kids are young and abroad dont interest me just yet. I regularly swap utilties suppliers and insurance companies for cover that i need picking up quidco and bonus incentives on the way. Every penny is budgeted for and i get a buzz knowing i am getting a bargin and stretching that latest bargin ( only if i need it though) as much as i can. We are in a debt management plan at the moment because back when i was younger i had no knowledge or common sense with money and it was a wake up call. I know that once that is paid off, i will continue to live like this even if i have extra money to spend. Its a horrible feeling when you worry about where the next penny will come from and now i do everything in my power to make sure that is not the case anymore.

It's surprising how easy it is to save money but even more surprising how hesitant some retailers are, to offer the customer a deal in these recession hit times.

I found out recently if I rebooked a colour appointment (highlights) with Rush (big hairdressing group) on a Wednesday and in advance that I saved I think half price - eg 50% discount. But they were really not willing to tell me had I asked. The main reason I had gone to Rush in the first place was due to a salesperson coming in and offering 3 treatments (ie cut, colour, style) for a set, bargain price. Of course if you pay extra you can get more of what you want (eg colour) for a bargain price.

I've done all the price comparison websites for bills and keep up-to-date on those.

I also keep an eye on the 1p Tesco threads here - who knows when you may need/want the Christmas goodies, toys etc. They also have other glitches like pickled shallots, GU biscuits, Head & Shoulders shampoo etc.

And I also keep an eye on various websites for say Bombay Duck candles, soaps etc for present basket.

Clothes - it is amazing how easily you can find discount vouchers for that White Stuff top or even search Ebay, I found a leopard print River Island dress for £8.00 - new with tags on Ebay that my friend had bought for full price - £35.00 2 months earlier. The Ebay outlet stores are also a good source.

Of course there's the added option of don't buy unless you need to. I tend to be a shopaholic and recently bought a very useful book that is going to hopefully help me curb that problem.

My friends and I also make use of La Tasca, Revolution etc discount vouchers - only last Friday we went out for a friend's birthday and paid 50% of the full price due to discount voucher. You could be really cheeky and only eat/drink at venues where there is an actual offer.

I also tend to use my Oyster card rather than travelcard for bus rides home from the West End rather than the quicker tube/train option, this is only because I don't work in the West End anymore so I don't have the coveted Zone 1 travelcard and have to use/top up the Oyster card, but the bus is certainly cheaper.

    Another option.

We recently switched to being a household of mainly meat eaters and now are meat say 3 x a week and rest of the time veggie.

This has the bonus of not only being healthier but also an awful lot cheaper.

There's a great lentil pie I make, a veggie sort of ratatouille which is served with kidney beans, yogurt, avocado and cheese and other Cranks (see Amazon.co.uk) veggie recipes.

Two other silly things - buy the big 1.5 litre Comfort fabric softener (says 42 washes) and other concentrated washing machine liquid (we use the Sainsburys Bio or Non Bio) - you only need a small cap of each and literally, especially the fabric softener these last for ages. If you get more stains then pre-treat, we use Biotex bleaching powder.

Another thing - we found we were feeding the cat almost double what she needed (about 4 Felix sachets a day), cut those down to about 2, the cat has lost some much needed weight (she was a chubby girl) and you save there.

You could even go old school and find a store that sells ie flour, rice etc in bulk, you bring your own container and they weigh it out for you - ages ago we got a Tilda 5kg Basmati Rice that is only just getting near the end!

Mooncup for those women having periods - saves on sanitary towels/tampons - not that I use this! Or washable sanitary towels. A lot of people forget that sanitary protection is still a VAT item - so now you pay 20% rather than 17.5% purely for the privilege of menstruating!

Don't women's sanitary items have a reduced VAT rate of 5%?

wt* is a Bombay Duck candle? Is it just a tea-light or is it really a dedicated candle with a special blend of (more expensive) waxes and wicks specifically designed for bombay duck?

Sometime I pay full retail for electronics. Apples products rarely go on sale. I've given away a few iPods for gifts and always ended up paying full price.
