CAA Ensures That The Price You See Is The Price You Pay
Date: 28 February 2011

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has today welcomed steps taken by most airlines to ensure their websites display airfares in a clear way including all compulsory taxes, fees and charges up front. This ensures consumers understand the price of flights they intend to book and are able to make informed decisions about which airline to fly with.

The CAA has been working with a range of airlines flying from UK airports to ensure they are displaying prices clearly. BA, Virgin, BMI, and other traditional airlines all comply with their obligations to do so. We welcome the steps taken by easyJet to amend its website at an early stage of the CAA’s work and the changes made by Monarch Airlines, bmibaby and Flybe to display the final, inclusive price at all times. Jet2.com and Ryanair have also formally agreed that they will display the full price up front by 28 April and 1 June 2011 respectively.

To be honest, I don't have any complaints about Ryanair's pricing policy. The moment you select a flight on their website, it subtotals the mandatory fare. It's only the credit card fees that follow. Everything else is optional.

Although I'm likely to be flamed for that comment ;)

I thought Ryanair already did this and it was only optional extras that were excluded. I know I usually get the up front price unless I chose one of the options or one of the flights with taxes or check in fees. Easy to avoid these though.
