Cillit Bang - Tiles ruined but followed instructions

  • I had a similar issue, my kitchen worktop has been ruined by cilit bang, the one that was advertised as a kitchen cleaner. Admittedly I did not read all the small writing on the back. Basically it has taken the top colour off the worktop, so now instead of dark colour it is white in places, as if it had limescale, but Cilit bang has removed the top coating from it. I spoke to the company who makes the product, and of course their reply was that there is a warning on the back. When I stated did she read every part of the small writing on the back of cleaners she has bought, she admitted she did not. I also stated why was the warning not more clearly visible. She stated that it would put people off buying the product, I added it would stop people having their surfaces ruined. I also contacted my house insurance company, but again I could not claim from them because they do not cover damage caused by cleaning, unbelieveable. So now I have to pay for a new worktop and I have to pay for it to be installed. I will not purchase another Cilit Bang product again. As an added note a friend of mine had the same problem with her kitchen worktop and has also stopped using it. They are ruining peoples homes and we can't all afford just to go out and get them replaced just like that. I am telling everyone to not buy the product.
  • I believe the company probably has already had lots of complaints, hence they rename products quickly, and always use the warning on the back as their get out clause, they take no responsibility, although the woman I spoke to did sympathise (so easy to do), but as a single mum I saved up a long time to get a new kitchen, only for it to be partly ruined because of this product. I am sure some will say its my own fault for not reading the instructions on the back.

    Surely not.

Why would they do that? ;)

Surely this is the first thing you should have done?

It might say "Do not use on worktops or freshly installed kitchens"
