My current car is a 10 year old Ford Focus 1.6 (value about £1500) and insurance in Jan was £231
I've just traded it in for a 2010 Focus 1.6 with an optional "sports pack" (different alloys and tinted windows) and a value of £12,500.
Insurance for the year £279
I couldn't believe it Only £48 more for a car valued at 8 times the price. I was expecting it to be loads more.0 -

I've got an 8yr old Toyota Corolla 1.6, and was a bit miffed when the renewal came in and it had gone up by £27 to £238, so I shopped around and discovered that the renewal quote was the 2nd best (by £2) out there and ended up staying with my insurer.
Talking with friends though I've come to realise that I'm doing pretty well at the moment insurance wise. I guess I'll see how the new directive affects me come December, as insurance for women is set to rise I believe.0 -

Most of the risk is in you killing someone, or more expensively, maiming them for life, and or writing off their £300k supercar, rather than your car.shaun_from_Africa wrote: »My current car is a 10 year old Ford Focus 1.6 (value about £1500) and insurance in Jan was £231

I still seem to be doing quite well, renewed in December - £621, and I'm 19.0 -

Given the number of threads on this forum going along the lines of "why has my insurance gone up?", it clearly isn't that obvious.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I don't know, shareholder payments look pretty good across the board too, and the profit figures published don't look too shabby either.0 -

A lot of nonsense on here about stating the obvious and having the last word.
Insurance costs are a perfectly valid talking point for what is supposed to be a motoring forum.
JCP in reply 15 mentions insurance costs for women are set to rise in December.
For her info, the new rules are due to come into force in December 2012.0
