You need to allow about 5% per year increase in fuel costs.Cheesedoodles wrote: »Thanks for some very helpful advice.
I'm not keen on the Subaru.. It just isn't me... I've never liked Scooby doos
I've done some calculations on various cars and the running cost...and it looks like the MPS is coming out ok (or perhaps it's because I WANT it to come out on top!!). The cost difference between the MPS and the 2.2 185ps Diesel is waaay to much. I need to keep the car for 5 years before I've saved the difference to the petrol MPS.
What I need to do is test drive the various versions. I'm not opposed to a Skoda either..their good cars! But I think I would then want the VRS version...which means it will take me 3 years before it's more economical than the MPS.......

Remember if these are dealer MPG figures what you get will vary greatly and it appears to vary make by make.

Glad you don't like the subaru, I think you're supposed to live in a council house to own one of those

That may be the case for Imprezzas with huge wings and massive exhausts, but the exact opposite for Foresters which are very popular with the landed gentry, and in twin turbo form go like the clappers, handle very well, also very well in the snow, as long as you turn down the boost, switch off the abs, and stick some winter tyres on.0 -
Your figures seem flawed in that I really cannot see a 2.2d being £7000 more (almost double) a 2.0d of the same year, maybe a couple of thou, but not £7,000 more, take out that and the bias moves away from the petrol.
£16,000 for an '07 will get you into something like an A6 3.0tdi quattro or 530d , a completely different league, and similar performance to the MPS.I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. You are right...the 2.2d engines came out in 2008/9. My mistake.0 -
That may be an option and they are very good cars. But I'm no big fan of BMW's either..."Everyone" has a BMW..they're too common.
I KNOW, I'm very fussy....:pStrongWork wrote: »Second hand 330d touring.

There is a reason for their popularity with people who enjoy driving ........... they are good!
335d or 535d Touring would fit your bill nicely as they are "rather nippy"

If you're that fussy, you wouldn't be considering a Mazda or a Skoda. Good cars, but terminally dull compared to a 330d imvho.sunshinetours wrote: »There is a reason for their popularity with people who enjoy driving ........... they are good!

And if remapped it has been scientifically shown that their torque affects the rotation of the Earth!
