How long do you think they should last?

Worn by a 7 year old child? I think 2 months is pushing it .... unless they're tied to a chair and not allowed to play. Thing is, M&S is no longer quality. 15 years ago it was different, but they're still successful based on people's memory of their past quality - their clothes and shoes are not what they once were and certainly not worth the prices they charge. I used to always get my work shoes and clothes there - now I go elsewhere. Were the OP's shoes faulty? Who knows - going on my experience of M&S I'd say it's accurate to expect their stuff not to last.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

You just said that M&S didn't make them strong enough!

to true marks are living of their old name where quality was always expected not anymore like a lot of stores items are made very cheaply, daughter recently bought cheap boots heel worn away within 3 weeks asked me to change them no way you should have got them heeled i said what do you expect for 20quid . there is some stores whos goods are made well but you have to pay a little more but the problem with kids shoes they knock them out so quickly so stronger shoes are advisable.

the fact they've have had no other customers bring them back shouldn't necessarily be taken to mean that you have done something wrong or that you are "at it" in fact it could just as easily suggest that the pair you have got were not up to standard or faulty from the beginning, in the first 6 months after sale the onus is on the seller or manufacturer to prove the item wasn't faulty.

Shoes should be expected to last 6 months, they should have offered to send them to the technologist for you,and should give you a receipt to say they have sent them its a standard form and all stores have got them.

I'm on your side too, OP.

All products sold have to be fit for purpose and of merchantable quality.

If they were sold as school shoes then they can't possibly be described as 'fit for purpose' if they have worn that badly after what seems to have been 6 weeks' actual wear, mostly indoors in a school.

Doesn't matter if they cost 50p or £50.

My youngest DS is still wearing the same pair of leather shoes, bought for £8 in the Mothercare sale and first worn in September, they are wearing well. So did his last pair from the same shop last year, same price, lasted from Easter all through Summer term.

Not everyone can afford expensive shoes for themselves or their children, I can't, so I make sure they are leather and a good fit, and would certainly expect M&S ones to wear better than you have described.

IMO the OP should have at least got an exchange! I thought items were meant to be fit for purpose? So schoolshoes in a childs size shoiuld be fit for wearing to school! 8 weeks is nothing, specially with half term. As it is within 6months M&S have to prove they weren't faulty when bought. I had shoes from brantano way over a yr ago, £20 maybe? Still going & only for work. Plus someone said just buy new or something similar? Well kids cost a bomb, I don't have any but a friend says all the uniforms, parties for friends b'days, school dinners & trips, after school activites, childcare/babysitter etc etc. 8 weeks of use per pair adds up over a year. My advice is to go to Asda, the kids shows are great quality & should they just not be right or faulty you have a year + a month to return without a receipt if you don't have one.
