M&S have become very strict lately.
When my wife was away for a few days I thought I would surprise her by putting new covers on our duvets. I tore off the celophane off both of them and tried to put one of them on but i had bought the wrong size so I took them back with the receipt to exchange them but they refused.

£17 isnt cheap you can get kids shoes from Brantano for £80 -
Hi sorry to those who think that a £17 pair of shoes should only last a couple of months then your wrong either that or you have more money then sense!
Regardless of the sole coming away the strap has split in two should that still happen after 2 mths of wear?
I actually work in two retail shops Next being one and if you had a receipt we wouldn't even question it. My daughter only wore these shoes for school half of the time is spent in the classroom and then there was half term so what wear exactly has she had!0 -
8 weeks is nothing. A school week is 5 days, so in actual fact they've become knackered after less than 6 calendar weeks of wear. That's not acceptable.
That's not taking half term into account either!0 -
I'd take them back to another M&S if possible to avoid the hassle of posting.
My son's shoes usually cost £35 and I fully expect them to last a year! And they do! If the sole is coming away from the top after two months, then they are faulty.
What other way do they expect her to "wear them" except on her feet! :rotfl: What a ridiculous expression!
£17 is not cheap for shoes and you would expect quality from a store such as Marks and Spencers (and I certainly wouldn't expect to be turned away from customer services like that!)."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

Yes I think so too. I know kids can give shoes hard wear but that is a short time.
Clarks are very good about this, admittedly their shoes can be more expensive.Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

to the op I think you should write a letter to head office explaining your problems and the way you were treated in store, and id like to think that you would be given either a full refund, an exchange and an apology.0

Thanks, This is the first time i have brought shoes from M&S and probably the last, I was going to buy her a pair from Clarks but i thought as i will be buying her boots from Clarks at the begining of dec i would buy some mid priced. I think Asda and Tescos could offer a better pair of school shoes!0

If it were me I would send them up to head office and see what happens and send the receipt. Theyre not much good to you anyway and neither is the receipt so you may as well try.
Having said that I think 2 months of 5 days per week wear at school (school stuff always wears out quicker) is quite good for £17. I used to buy cheap shoes for myself and was forever buying new ones. The most recent pair I've bought were £45 and I've had them 4 months and they still look like new. So I suppose it is wise to invest more money if you want quality.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
If you want to avoid hassle, Id try another M&S as suggested. If they refund the money, no problem.
If they refuse as well, I wouldn't send them to H/O, I'd check with local trading standards and see if they think you are being reasonable. They can help argue your case provided you still have the shoes. Once you've sent them away, you've no evidence.
I totally agree 8 weeks is no time at all for a £17 pair.0
