O2 fair usage policy, is this fair?

Well I'm totally confused now! (as if I wasn't before)Just checked and it says on 'my O2' That I'm currently on the Access package and that has a set limit of 20GB but as far as I'm concerned it was 'unlimited' and that I am 'out of contract' but the woman on the phone said it was unlimited but with a fair usage policy applied of 40GB. However when I go into my account overview it says I have a 'useage' allowance of 40GB, which is different again. Help!!
It is quite simple, you are using more than the 40GB that you are allowed to on your Access package.
If you had joined after 14 July 2010, your limit would be 20GB.
Use less or have your O2 broadband contract terminated.

Only one on there is talktalk, is that good or bad?
You will see many bad reports on TalkTalk but most I know are happy with their LLu offering. One thing to consider is TT will also take over line rental thus making it harder to migrate in future.
A package I feel would be good for you is Vivaciti Surfwise Variety which is run by Vivaciti on the TT network and you can keep your line with BT
Details:
Surfwise Variety LLU ADSL2+ upto 24MB 100GB FUP £19.80
http://www.vivaciti.net/adsl.php not the easiest of sites to navigate but if you go to any "Sign Up Now" button you can see what is available (you do not have to complete the signup)0 -
These days 52GB per month for an active online family is definitely not excessive.
I would try to upgrade your O2 package.
Talk talk in my experience are awful, I personally would rather have no internet that be with them!!!0 -

As the OP is on O2 Access there is no upgrade option available, the only alternative on LLU is TalkTalk.
In my experience TalkTalk LLU is quite reasonable, from the people I know who are on it, but still not what I recommend.
Other ISP's are available on BT lines but I still think the Vivaciti option is good www.xilo.net do a similar package but you have to call them for availability.
Tiscali had/s a similar bad reputation but I've used it via a reseller(Tiscali wholesle tails) and it was the best connection I had.0 -
I got disconnected by O2
Went to Xilo0 -
We use talktalk and have never had a problem0

I too was on the O2 Access package which at the time that I signed up,(nearly 2 years ago) it was classed as 'unlimited' subject to fair usage policy. At the time there was nothing in the T/Cs that I could find that 'unlimited' meant a 40GB limit. It was advertised as 'unlimited'.
I too received a phone call from a very abrupt CS woman who told me that I had used 52GB (ring a bell with OPs post!) and that I had exceeded my 40GB limit. I said that there was nothing in my copy of the T/Cs that stated that I had a 40GB limit. She said that it had always been that and if I did not reduce my usage they would terminate the service, end of! Not being happy about this, I contacted O2 and spoke to a very polite man who explained that I was on a 40GB limit and I was very lucky because all new contracts were only 20GB and would I like my MAC so that I could change my ISP!!! To cut a long story short, I suggested to him that because I was on a 40GB contract O2 wanted me to leave so that O2 could split my 40GB into two 20GB packages and make twice as much money, at that point he just laughed and said he could not possibly comment on that!
It does seem a bit of a coincident that other people have suddenly started to exceed their limits by exactly the same amount!!! Needless to say, I have now gone to a local ISP who are slightly (about £5pm) more expensive but I have got 100GB plus unlimited use between 11pm and 6pm. And before you ask, I am not going to name my ISP as I don't want them getting too popular and being bought out by a sneaky company like O2!!!!0 -
As for your usage , why dont you download networx to keep an eye on what you have used ,then you have an idea if you are using more than 40 gb and can act accordingly.0

I also had the phone call, last year sometime, saying we'd used 56gb. This was before they bought in the 40gb limit, all they would tell me was we were using too much, the 'average' user only used about 10gb according to them. They wouldn't really give me any target to reduce to other than that. For months we barely used all the things we want the internet for, to avoid the rude lady from O2 calling again.
Then, just as they announced the price rises, I discovered the reason I hadn't been able to stream anything on the rare occasions I dared try, was because O2 were massively restricting traffic. No Youtube, no iPlayer, no Spotify. So I finally decided to leave, and am just waiting to be moved to the Post Office. No idea if they'll be any better, but at least I can ring them for free because my phone line is with them.0
