thinking of running car on petrol & water mix

I'm not sure what the exact figures are (it's been a while since I studied physics at A-level lol) but I was wondering if there would be any mileage in using a converted energy source like this in a production engine?
For example -- a petrol, LPG or diesel engine can be run very efficiently if it is run at its peak torque level. So, if you could run it continuously in that manner, and it could be shown that a second engine, run on say hydrogen (or any other material that could be produced on the fly in a reversible reaction), would be much more efficient across the rev range than the typical petrol engine would, could this form a viable alternative to a traditional hybrid?
It's all just conjecture, and probably complete rubbish, but in theory if the maths fit, and you could find that sweet-spot...0 -

Ah! I thought they were talking about one of these kits:

Both ideas are stupid though!0
