You really shouldn't be encouraging wild mice into the house, they can cause a lot of damage. You should have released him into the wild when you had a chance.
Again,we didnt "encourage him into the house".We released him once before and thought it was far enough but like I said in my op-either it was not far enough or this one was a new one.
We were not going to release him soaking wet and barely breathing as he was earlier tonight and thought we were providing him with a comfortable place to pass away.As he has not-we are going to keep him in his secure little box for the night so he can get properly dry and DH will release him tomorrow morning-further away from our house than he did last time.0 -
I would have helped him too

I could say alot more, but I'll refrain as this is a family forum :mad:You really shouldn't be encouraging wild mice into the house, they can cause a lot of damage. You should have released him into the wild when you had a chance.
Why don't people read posts properly if they're going to reply.
I really hope the little chap survived the night polkadot. Well done you for caring

YOu need to take him very far away as they do find their way back, I had the same problem and eventually drove to a nearby forest.0

Walwin I was just going to say the same thing!
For goodness sake read before you type, and should you find yourself in the embarrassing position of getting the wrong end of the stick go back and edit your nastiness!0 -
How is he today ?Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20

Maybe you could take him to a wildlife sanctuary - I've taken several frogs there that my cats (naughty) have relocated into my house. I tried putting them back out but they always come back as it's probably where they were born.
Your post reminded me of the Friends episode with Phoebe and her pet mouse.....that had a LOT of babies.
Well done for being so humane :T I would be the same. But I have cats so no chance of mice in my house. Or spiders and daddy long legs which they eat. Sometimes I get left the corpse....GROSSE.Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
Thank you everyone (those who did read the post;))So we woke up this morning to find his little plastic box empty:eek: (DH had used an old plastic box that *used* to house my breastpump because it is sturdy and had two holes about 5mm diameter for air to get in).I was out most of today running errands and when I came home I spotted him dash in behind the td which is close to the front door.I left the door open for about an hour so Im hoping he found his way out. But I wont be leaving any water in the sink ever again-just incase.
Of course the other giggle was when I went to rinse out some rags this morning and saw dh's wet teabag in the sink!Last nights heart attack just couldnt compare:o
ETA To be fair "thedevilmademedoit did *try* to apologise;)0 -
Oh dear, I don't mean to sound cruel but I hope he hasnt taken up residence in your house. Don't get me wrong, I quite like mice, outside, in fields. However, I had some that decided that they wanted to live in my house - it's not nice opening up a cupboard that you maybe haven't opened for a week or two and finding a whole load of mouse droppings and ripped up stuff. They can bring disease and can also chew through electrical wires, which will cause no end of problems if they are under floorboards, etc.
I'm glad he's ok, but hope for your sake he's moved out!0 -
Poor little mouse! I'm glad he survived.
I have to agree with Caroline though, you really would be better off moving the mice out before they start breeding, I expect it's looking for somewhere warm with a good food supply to start building a nest.
I would buy a humane mouse trap. They catch the mouse without killing it, and then you can take it far away and let it go. I would also then re-set the trap every night until you've had at least 2 weeks without catching anything as there may well be more than one living there already.
Mice in the house do an awful lot of damage and once they start to breed they are far harder to get rid of and you will end up having to kill them or get pest control in.
One mouse is cute, an infestation is not.0
