LCD write-off advice

I have recently had an old Samsung 32" lcd sent back for repairs with my "whateverhappens" extended warranty.

To my anoyance the TV has been written off as parts are no longer available. So Currys have offered to replace the TV like for like of better.

My old TV was very expensive when first purchased at over 1200 quid (in 2005) and one of the reasons for this was because it had 2 x scart inputs, which i need for various things (old Xbox, DVD and surround sound).

Now looking at the samsung models on the Currys website. The only ones with 2 x Scart inputs are all the new 3d models which are obviously very expensive.

My question is

Is it worth me digging my heels in in order to get one of these TVs as i do need the scart inputs and besides "like for like"should mean exactly that, surely?

They have not offered a settlement figure yet, so i wonder if anyone had any experience with the legalities of these things?

Just want a bit of advice before the ring me up.

Cheers

No of course you wont get a new 3d TV, just buy a scart splitter/combiner.

I am not saying that i am after a 3d tv. My question is regarding "like for like".

They should provide me with a TV with the exact (or better) specification.

'Like for like' does not mean identical in every respect! Modern TV's have more HDMI sockets and fewer SCARTs. You're getting a brand new (and much higher spec) TV to replace a 6 year old one, so why complain? As already advised, just use a splitter.

    Why have another Samsung?
Like for like means specifications / facilities, not brand.

I've no problems with Samsung or indeed Sharp - however, Insurers are not daft, and it is not the value that is protected, but the product. A 32" LCD will be replaced with a 32" of similar specification. The fact prices have plummeted is an irrelevance (sadly!) and as for connections, HDMI is the way to go so holding out for SCART is being very old-school!
  • Maybe you'd prefer a second hand 6 year old Samsung 32" tv ... that's "like for like!:D
