Ha, this https://www.seedswappers.co.uk site is turning out to be really good for everyone
Love how its a small world on here!!
I think its a perfect way of trying out stuff that you perhaps might not have tried for various reasons and a good way to experiment.
Wishing everyone luck with their new seeds :beer:0 -
Hope the P.I.P's come good for you, I managed a 90% + hit rate. They took within a week to come up, and were in a propagator until the first one showed through.
Last year I did non-propagated ones, and they took between 2 - 4 weeks. Saying that I also had some pop up in late summer, that must have been caught up in the soil from the ones I potted on.
If you have no luck - please let me know
Hi Sally,
Just popping back and let you know my PIP's have started to pop up :j. The propagator they are in seems to be warmer in the middle and the PIP's were planted on the outer edge so were probably not getting as warm as the tomato seeds.0 -

Hi
Hoping to get my PIP's today in the post then hopefully I can get them sown in the propagator with the jalapenos.
I'm a bit nervous as we have to go away next weekend so i'm hoping they will be ok by themselves (leaving a heated prop on when away worrys me a tad though) & I'll give them a mist of water friday afternoon before we go but would miss Saturday & be back on Sunday, just not sure if that would be ok. Oh, it's like having babies, I may take them to my neighbours actually & see if they'll babysit. I suppose I could hold off sowing till when we come back but I feel times ticking away a bit for chillis, decisions, decisions!.0 -

I think you will be ok mine went in about the 28 Feb and started to come up on the 9 Mar so you should be ok just make sure you check them for water before you go and if they have germinated you could turn off the propagator and leave the lid on with the vents open to keep them a little protected. If they haven't germinated by the time you leave you may have a nice surprise when you get back

Thank you. I'll have to decide what to do as I doubt they will have germinated to be able to leave them with lid off in turned off heated prop by then.
I just worry about leaving a heated prop on when no-one is in the house for a weekend, I'm probably been silly although I did think about using my unheated prop but I feel the heated gave them a great start last year so I shall have to weigh up the options.
My other option is to leave sowing them for another week until we get back & hope it's not too late.
My hubby also informed me of a week away later in the year & my first thought was
" Arrrgh, my plants/veg" only gardeners will understand that worry everyone else would think I'm sad!;)0 -

I managed to get mine to germinate without a heated propagator. They just sat on the windowledge above a radiator. It has worked like a charm for a couple of years. Just turn your heated prop off and stick the seeds on a windowledge above a radiator with the lid on.
My tomatos have germinated in exactly that position. Sally's seeds done good. We shall have yummy tomato sarnies this summer provided I don't kill them in the next couple of months. It's entirely possible you know!

Thanks for the advice.
I had visions of returning from weekend away to the house been burnt to cinders in our absence because of my peppers! (dramatic I know, like the machine would decide to combust that weekend because we have gone to the seaside! ):rotfl:
I shall sow them then this weekend as i'm getting itchy fingers & do as you say, I don't want to leave it too late!.:)0 -
Am so glad the ones I sent in for swapping are coming good. :T:T0

with the summer just around the corner (hopefully) i am guessing that the number of seed swaps will decrease - so am thinking about tweaking the site a little - but could do with a bit of feedback on how it works at the minute and how i can improve it in any way
would any mse swappers like to give me a few pointers as to where i might make changes - please be as candid as you like - i am no web designer, in fact i am actually amazed i managed to get a web site up and running at all - as i don't do computers :rotfl:
thanks
