Where have my old emails gone?

Hope someone can help me with this............

Since I changed my computer last year, (I also changed to a wireless hub), I can sign into my btinternet.com email account and I am receiving new emails OK.

However, I am unable to access the emails that I'd received and saved prior to me getting new computer.

I have not changed my provider.

Any ideas, please?

  • Errrrrrrrrr, I didn't save them anywhere. They were just sitting quietly in my inbox.

What were you using to access your emails - Outlook Express?
  • Alternatively has the new computer downloaded all the e-mails into the Windows Live inbox ?

They would then be unavailable using a webmail application.

    More facts needed.

The normal email works Mail received at your ISPs mail server then directed to your box on the server >> you open Your Email client and download them . Standard unless set otherwise is once downloaded mails are no longer on ISP server .Unless set not to delete from server ..

Mails on your PC One are still on PC one unless you saved them and transferred them to PC two same as anything you did not transfer .
I take it your new computer was just setup and was not cloned from the old machine .

  • Oooops, sorry......I got engrossed in someone else's thread for ages. (As yer do!)

I accessed them via Outlook Express. My current computer has a completely separate set-up. (My old one is upstairs waiting to go in the loft, after I've saved some of my photo's to a stick.)

I really thought I was quite savvy with computers, (I'm 55 and a Granny!)

My son's coming to stay for the weekend. I'll get him to explain it to me, but thank you everso much. You're a star!:D

Basically by using Outlook Express you have downloaded your messages off the email server and onto your computer.

Now you need to backup those messages and then import them into the new computer.
