Just logged in and got this:
NUS Update
Notification of status change.
You are no longer registered with HMV.co.uk as a student.
Your NUS number has expired.
If you are still a student please update your registration details with your new NUS number.
I'm guessing it's because my number is from the 'old' (free) card instead of the new Extra card, which I'm not buying. Has this happened for anyone else yet?

I bought an NUS extra card for this year and the number works on HMV, but is not accepted on the Orange website.0

yeah mine expired - however you just have to go to the store -ask for a hmv student card (show your student ID or a new free NUS democracy card) and they'll give you one - you then enter the number on that instead of the nus number.0

Interesting, I'll try that!0

you have to show your new id card to get one for this year (they're pink this time, not yellow)0 -
I went to HMV Lincoln but they'd run out of the student card forms, so they let me use my standard free NUS card to get 10% discount, no problem.0

Yep - HMV haven't got rid of any discount, it's just that last year's cards aren't valid anymore.0

Actually, HMV in theory, HAVE removed the student discount that was previously available. I logged on to my account and it stated my student card had expired. It stated I needed to show my card at an HMV store and pick up a HMV card which has a number on it, then enter that number to get my discount at HMV.com or in HMV Stores. Fine, I thought, I was going to Cheltenham that week so took my student card. When I got there I was told that they could not issue the HMV student discount card and that if I wanted one, then I would have to travel to Birmingham (58 miles away) or Bristol (35 miles away). This is absoulutely ridiculous. I am a disabled student and therefore I cannot travel easily to get the discount to these main cities, (Why on earth is Cheltenham or Gloucester not classed as a main centre???)which the NUS Extra say I am entitled to. I will be contacting the NUS about this because it is just a way for HMV to get out of offering the discount. I was told that HMV do not offer the card it in a town where there is not a 'Savvy' store (which operates a student discount, I am told). So make your own mind up why that is! They should be removed from the NUS Extra site as they are NOT offering the discount to students in all major towns and cities.0

Hi Bengo, have you seen the date of the thread- 2006. Anyway if you want a card I can get you one with my student card(yes in fact I have never had the nus extra card as I think its a rip off) most places I have been to-hmv,zavvi,new look, vue etc just let me use my campus card. So if you do let me know or pm me and if you just want the code for online purchases I can pm it or send the card if you want to use it in store. I have done this for a couple of other people who were unable to get cards in their towns as well so its no problem as I am in town most days.:D0

I think you will find that NUS won't care one bit seeing as HMV are not part of the NUS Extra scheme and haven't been for a couple of years. There is no mention of HMV discount on the NUS website, so I don't know where you get the idea that the NUS have said you are entitled to it.
This year they seem to have decided to offer the discount card only at stores in areas with a large student population, nothing to do with being near a Zavvi store. My local store in Hatfield (a small town) offers them but the uni there does have 24,000 students and there is no Zavvi in this town. I'm guessing Cheltenham or Gloucester don't have such large student populations.0 -
Is there a form to fill in to get hmv discount card0
