Confused about iPhones!

Hope someone can help me out with this. It's all making me confused!
I need to get an iPhone for work (I know, it's tough!). I need to be able to pick up work e-mails and documents and only the iPhone or Blackberry will do this, so I can't even consider the Android 'phones, which seem to offer a better deal. It costs £100 more each year to synch a Blackberry with our system than it does an iPhone, so if I keep the 'phone for over 2 years, it's a better deal and offers more of what I need, I think. Fortunately my boss will pay for it (!), but naturally he's keen to get a good deal.
I plan to go with Tesco as that seems the cheapest option, but what I don't know now is whether to go with the iPhone 4 16 mb, costing about £80 more up-front than the 3GS 8 mb. Bearing in mind that I'm not going to be playing games or downloading video, will I lose anything if I opt for the cheaper option? I've tried comparing the specs but it just find it all a bit baffling.
Thanks in anticipation of your help.

My HTC Wildfire (cheap Android phone) synchronises with my work's Exchange Server for e-mails, contacts and calendar. You don't need an iPhone or Blackberry.0
-
Exchange support has much improved since Android 2.2.x, so you might find that they can suit your needs after all.0
-
If only that were the case! Our IT man says only iPhone or Blackberry will synchronise with our server. Don't know why 'cos I'm not at all technically-minded.
Thanks anyway!0 -

I suspect he's wrong in all fairness, but then I don't know what system you actually run.
You do lose a little going for a 3GS vs the #4 but it's not stuff you're going to be worried about going on your OP, but the phone wont be as snappy overall. You still get the "multi-tasking" which you wouldn't on the 3G.0 -
I couldn't possibly comment
I'm sure a lot of us are frustrated when we're sure that other things are possible, but I'm stuck with being told that these are the options and I can't do anything else. Have tried exploring it, but hit a wall of Blackberries and iPhones!0 -
I have an iphone 4 and love it because its simple to use and is quick with the things i use it for. My wife has a blackberry and she loves it because of the full qwerty keyboard and i have to admit they are brilliant phones also. Nut i still wouldn't rule out android. There some quality phones running android and you can get some v good deals. And as said before.... IT bods are useless..... You seen the TV show The I.T crowd? Thanks everyone for your comments. If this were just for my personal use I would be looking to get a good deal on an Android 'phone as I think they offer more for the money. Whether or not my IT guy is right about only iPhone and Blackberry being compatible with our network, I don't have any choice than to listen to him, especially as the organisation is paying.
As I work for a charity I am really conscious of how much I spend on anything and I just wanted to know whether the iPhone 4 was £80 more worth it than the iPhone 3GS. The only 3GS model Tesco has in stock is the 8GB (and that seems to have been the case for a while).0
