Cat has had his tooth removed

My Merlin had one of his canines out 3 weeks ago. He had an injection of painkillers and antibiotics which last for 24 hours. We had a weeks worth of antibiotic capsules we had to open and mix with his food. The painkillers made him quite spaced out and a bit wobbly and he ate loads (munchies?!). The upper canines go way up into the skull and, rather alarmingly, he bled a little from his eye socket. Vet said it was normal as long as not excessive or infected.
At check-up a week later he was fine, but tonight we have noticed his jaw is swollen again, so back to the vets in the morning.
Oh shame! Hope he's ok! Let us know how the appointment goes. Hugs to MerlinDFD February 2012

Hi ka7e
How is Merlin doing? Has the swelling gone down?
Must say, Buddy has been oh so affectionate ever since having his 2 teeth out. Usually he's a "don't share limelight with the other 2 cats" kind of cat, but lately, even if one of the others is on my lap, he tries to squeeze on too. Must say, i'm loving the extra attention! He even spent the entire night sleeping on my legs. Poor thing, I can only guess that the tooth in question must of been giving him pain before it was removed!DFD February 2012

Thankfully the swelling went down overnight. He has been eating and drinking normally and definitely wasn't in pain. It can't have been an abcess, so no idea what was going on!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0

Ah good to hear!!! yay for Merlin!
Buddy goes for his check up on Saturday, but i'm not anticipating any problems. Right now just hope the insurance pays out - A. Because it was our last day with that insurer on the day it was done, and B. Because its dental. But the vet said due to it being a broken tooth (accident), it might be covered. So no harm in trying to claim.
Besides that though, Buddy is doing great! All my worrying for nothingDFD February 2012

one of my boys had pretty much all his teeth out bar his fangs and a few others and the difference in him is amazing. He has had teeth problems for 8 months beforehand and he is back to his chaotic self!! we found despite the major surgery he was back to himself in a few days and nine weeks later its like it never happened. We do groom him more now as he is very thick coated but other than that its been amazing.Crafting for 2009 items doneOne patchwork blanket, two neck supports, one tea cosy, one knitted bunny, one knitted egg!0

Ah shame, just like my buddy. Such a happier cat! Only thing is though, which i'll mention to our vet, is that his mouth seems to get caught on the side slightly when he's eating. Maybe on the stitches.DFD February 2012
