  • Yes, I am using their 'BeBox' (which doesn't have the greatest reputation) with my PC connected via ethernet and netbook via wireless. For me, the wireless connection is significantly slower than the cabled one (topping out at around 9 Meg) but I presume that if your line is only running at 8 Meg or so the difference will be less pronounced.

Having found the BE connection stable for the last couple of days I have tonight adjusted the SN ratio downwards via my account control panel and this has tweaked the speed up by over 1 Meg to 14.7 Meg on the speedtest sites so I am now even more happy than before :D !!

However, the router stats do show this has introduced the occasional error so I will just have to see how things work out over the next couple of days before deciding whether to change it back to the default setting again.

Are you using their modem/router kit?

I am currently running a Netgear DG834, which is quite old. Though I've found ISP-supplied hardware tends to be very, very poor [Thompson grade!].
Prior to switching to BE I was using a Netgear DG834v2, so I initially continued using that router with BE. I subsequently decided to try the supplied BeBox though, and found it gave me significantly faster speeds than the Netgear. Overall switching to BE almost doubled my speed.

There are some router comparisons here:

(though unfortunately the BeBox is not included)

However BT are completely insistent that I will not see better speeds from BE, compared to what I've seen on AOL and BT in the past.

I guess they're gonna say that... Here my router syncronises about 13MBPS and get fairly consistant actual download speeds of around 10MBPS according to speedtest.net . My neighbour however is with BT... syncs at 16MBPS but is lucky to get 5MBPS actual download speed.

Thanks for the responses. I may finally retire my trusty DG834 for the 'BE Box' if it make such a difference!

Oh, placed my order a few hours ago....
