    Network disruption

We’d like to apologise to customers who are currently experiencing a loss of voice, text and internet services.
This is due to equipment damage at one of our technical facilities after a break-in last night. We’re working to restore everything to normal as soon as possible.

I now have one phone logged onto the network but no communications are possible.

The other is still not logging on, I guess they're in the process of moving the IMSI numbers from the trashed server to another to allow those SIMs to access the network.

There are reports that this outage - which is claimed to be as a result of a break in by gypsies stealing cable and equipment near Basingstoke, North Hampshire, has affected millions of users right across the south. Pretty much from Cornwall to West London.

Worryingly, there are some reports that it has also taken out part of the TETRA network used by the Police.

[STRIKE]Nice to see Vodafone don't have all their eggs in one basket and planned their network properly for resilience [/STRIKE]
  • Mr_oink,

If that is true, its good to see they aren't trying to steal railway infrastructure for a change (I jest, they shouldn't steal anything!)
I would not think that Vodafone would carry any sensitive TETRA equipment without a shed load of alarm systems though......

  • Well I find this absolutely ridiculous. Surely there must have been some kind of back-up. I run a business from this line and my office line also redirects to this number, so today I've lost on all potential new clients, I can't get hold of any of my current clients and they can't get hold of me.

I just called Vodafone to demand compensation and although I signed up for a business contract it seems the idiots have put me into a consumer contract so not only does this now mean I am not entitled to compensation, they're also now telling me I am breaching their contract and frauding my account because I'm running a business from a so-called personal line.

During my initial contract sign-up I was discussing for at least an hour my business plans and casually chatting about how I hoped to succeed in the line of work I am doing with the representative in the Vodafone store, so not only have they messed up today - they've now messed up overall and my opinion of Vodafone is now one of disgust and anger.

I will now be writing to them to terminate my contract and using another provider as this is NOT acceptable.:mad::mad:

I'd really like to think that too.......
Personally I don't think that Vodafone switch Airwave, and I hope that the reports are just plain wrong.

That said, BT Mobile (and others) use the Vodafone network - so I'm wondering if they are affected too?

The Airwave network is not connected to Vodafone, or at least only as far as an Airwave / TETRA handset can call a vodafone mobile number so would be routed onto Vodafone on the end leg of the call.

However, some public services use Vodafone as their mobile carrier and often have a VPN for shortcodes / internal extension numbers, these are being affected just as any personal customers handset would be.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!
