Hi I need some help
ok first the facts VAT went up first week of jan
no company can charge 20% VAT on anything processed before that only 17.5%
so jus to make sure am right
I checked my sky bill for nov and oct both where £30 (£10 multiroom and £20 worth of package)
but in december the bills came through at £30.75 (£10.25p for multiroom and £20.50p for sky package) and again same for feb was £30.75p
does anyone know if they charge a month ahead?
i changed my package in feb and now march bill is lower as i took off multiroom so they must not be charging month ahead.
and my final question
have they charged VAT early?
I think everyone should be checking there sky bills

Your sub is charged a month in advance. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

That is what I thought
any invoice before the VAT increase will be charged at the lower VAT at 17.5%
Problem is I can't view the full bill as it's online so it does not show me how much VAT I have been charged0 -
What tax point is shown on the invoice?-that's the date that is relevant. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

the only thing the online sky bill shows is what package I have and how much that is and what subscriptions I have.
does not show VAT or anything like that. but the top line of the statement shows this.
Statement date: 29/12/10, Payment due date: 12/01/110 -
There is no tax point on Sky's bills as they are not invoices. They will have increased the viewing cost in January to reflect the increase, and as you will/would be paying this after the VAT increase, then it is correctly charged. If you were able to pay in advance for the service then you would have a valid argument.0

ok so your saying that anything from january onwards meant to be higher but dec can not be charged at the new vat rate?
does anyone else have sky here? is there a chance you could check your past bills?0 -
December-produced bills showing service billed in advance will correctly show VAT at 20%. Problems can arise if there are earlier charges (say for movies watched in Nov/Dec) which should be taxed at 17.5%, but only if billed prior to the January rise.0
