I think it is absolutely horrific that people can do this to any living animal, I just hope poor Ferdinand didn't suffer
I love my two cats so much, if anything like this happened to them I would be just devastated.
Good luck with the petition, it is definitely a criminal offence as far as I am concerned.:j Debt Free 27.07.2011!! :j0 -
I have signed. My deepest sympathy to the owners.
I made myself look at the picture as well, and it must have been terrible to find your beloved cat in that terrible condition.
I sooooooo wish that I could have the opportunity of 10 minutes alone with the kinds of sickos that do things like this:("there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -
I signed after seeing it on Purrs, can't imagine how I would feel if someone had done that to one of my cats, I hope he didn't suffer. RIP Ferdinand

After death, according to that article.
Thankfully, it seems that most of the injuries were sustained after death
Whoever mutilated the body was pretty sick, but from that picture of what the cat looked like when he was found, it really does look like a fox killed cat to me and unfortunately I have seen many when I lived in the middle of nowhere, next to a farm. The foxes weren't just killing the kitttens and old cats either.
The last remaining farm cat, decided to have her kittens in my garden. I assume because she felt it was safer there as I had dogs and the foxes kept away from my garden. I fed the kittens daily so that their mother could stay with them instead of leaving them while she hunted. My long suffering friends took a kitten or two each when they got to 10 weeks (the age the cat rescue people told me).

With councils doing nothing to cull foxes, their numbers are growing, so more foxes to feed. In rural areas, farmers will cull them.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

That's correct MissMoneypenny, in the opinion of the vet conducting the post mortem the injuries/mutilation were post mortem. Also that a cause of death could not be proven - he may have been hit by a car, poisoned or killed by a fox but there was no evidence to suggest either of these. In fact the post mortem stated "There was also no evidence of the presence of tooth marks or grazes on the carcase" Given what happened to his body after death would you not be concerned that something untoward had happened to him prior to death?
This is the whole crux of Ferdinand's owners campaign - Ferdinand's death and mutilation has not been investigated by any authorities because it can't be proved that the person who mutilated his body also caused his death. The Greater Manchester Police Force do not recognise the mutilation of a pet after death as an offence (not even criminal damage), although forces in other parts of the country see this differently.
The petition did really well yesterday, thanks to MSE I believe - we would be very grateful if people who haven't signed yet could take the time to do so. No personal details will be displayed should you choose the 'anonymous' option.0 -
I saw this on purrs:(
It makes you think the person who did this is not only sick in the brain and obviously evil but the whole act is like something of a serial killer movie, you know when they start off with animals and move onto people. unfortunately the poice may act when a human body turns up but cats like Ferdinand have suffered and nothing is treat like its a crime.
lets hope this petition does get the law changed- whoever did this is definately a threat to society and needs locking up:mad:***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -

Something untoward did happen to him prior to death - that's why he died. The mutilation seemed to have happened after death, according to the vet - at the hand of some sicko/s I assume.
Foxes are quite 'neat' in getting the parts of the cats they want to eat. If you want further details, I'll do it in a pm as it can be very distressing to read (and worse to see).RENTING? I'm sure some people think it isnt fair on him but this is one of the reasons my little guy is a strictly indoor cat.
Horrific that anyone could do this to an animal.
I really think the police need to take a much harder line on animal cruelty as it takes a really sick person to do that to an animal. If they can do it to an animal they could do it to a person. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0
