How about a 2.5mm jack to 2.5mm jack and plug it into the line-in on your soundcard :-)

You might want to look at this: http://www.davee.com/scanrec/ for recording. It's designed to solve a similar issue, but I've not tried it myself.
  • This might sound like a crazy suggestion (I don't actually know much about ethernet based cordless VoIP phones)

What provider are you using for your VoIP account? Would it not be easier to route it through your PC for calls that need recording, use recording software and buy a headset?

Google "Comvurgent SD call recorder" or "Call Mynah" for mobile phone recording.
  • Who is your VIOP provider? My provider does a call recording service - maybe your's will do the same:

I see where you are coming from TP. The issue is a set up like that depends on the PC being running to place/receive calls. If you have an IP based phone that talks directly to a VoIP gateway(router come hub switch wireless access point or dedicated)/call manager/server there is no dependency for a PC.

Recording the calls gets a little 'interesting' with cordless phones like this. The cordless phone talks directly to a VoIP gateway inside of a all-in-one router/firewall/adsl modem type of affair. You can't physically sit yourself between the wan and the ip phone to do a packet capture as everything is integral :-/ It's much easier it the actual handset is not cordless, and hooks up to a switch/gateway/router/modem via a cat5 cable, or if the user has an analogue phone hooked into a switchport via an ATA like the Linksys PAP2. In these cases you can intercept, capture the packets and reconstruct/save the call. There is probably windows software out their to do it.

I *think* the OP is of the former type with a cordless direct to a gateway unit, with no network point of interception on the LAN. In this case the best option is for the OP to make use of the 'recording' feature of the phone, or at a push, the headphone out. My only concern with the latter is the device may not send sidetone to the headphone socket resulting in one way audio recordings. This kind of phone {cordless VoIP to gateway} brings some unique challenges to monitor and I left them alone myself for this reason.

Personally I make use of a free Asterisk server, a number of old 'Shoretel' + 'Swissvoice' IP phones and a couple of PAP2s with standard BT Dect cordless phones in it for our little system. It records and does everything I could possibly ask of it :-)

Scouselander probably has suggested the best option - see if the ITSP offers recording as an option.

    That won't work:
"Connects directly to analogue line or to digital/IP telephone handset cords."

It's a cordless DECT phone..... no leads and no analogue ports. Think the OP is going to try the headphone socket and see how it goes.
  • Eventually............ time, adapters and cable allowing, Audacity is able to record straight from my phone via the earphone socket !

    Thanks for all the suggestions
