Hi Folks
Since being ill a few years ago, my memory isn't as good as I'd like it to be, especially the short term stuff
As such, is their something that can go between my phone and PC, so my PC can record telephone conversations I have ?
My phones are the VOISP type, which doesn't mean much to me, so replies containing words of less that one syllable will be much appreciated !!
I've read the threads discussing the legalities of this, not saying I'm an expert now, but would appreciate just the practical suggestions please.
(If that last bit hasn't come across well, my one brain cell used it's daily synapse quota earlier !!! :T)

Your VoIP phones, do they have a wired handset or are they cordless? Also, are they linked into your computer or are they completely independent and directly programmed to a ITSP (Internet Telephone Service Provider) - perhaps through a ATA like a PAP2 ?
If they are wired, a simple interface from Maplin - as Sharkie has pointed out - will let you splice the recording interface into the handset lead. You can either record to a cassette, portable recorder of some kind or plug it in to your PC sound card.
If they are cordless and hook into your computer then there is probably a consumer software package out there to 'pull out' the calls from passing data packets. Personally I use Wireshark to do this - but it is not really its primary use as a tool - just a feature.
Finally, if you are 'cordless' and connected directly to an ITSP then recording the calls will be quite involved. I use port mirroring and a sniffer to do this and again make use of Wireshark to reassemble the call. However, as you are looking for very simple answers I'm not sure this would be for you.
The final option is the old fashioned 'sucker' that sticks to the phone. The only issue with those is they rely on sidetone (a little bit of your own voice being fed back to the earpiece) so both sides of the call can be recorded. VoIP phones don't tend to do sidetone, it's something you tend to find in wired BT situations.
Without knowing your exact scenario, it's difficult to point you the right way.0 -
Are you using VOIP via your PC (ala Skype)?
If so then the vast majority of audio streaming devices shuold be sufficient.Signaller, author, father, carer.0 -
Thanks for the responses
I'm using cordless VOIP, that connect to my Speedtouch 780 router, and the phones are Siemans Gigaset C475IP, if that info helpsBaby-Mechanic

Well, before getting overly technical with this, the review I read on these states that the answering machine function can be used to record calls:
http://gigaset.com/hq/en/product/GIGASETC475IP.html
"An answering machine for important messages
You’re always in reach with the Gigaset C475 IP. This model’s integrated answering machine provides up to 30 minutes of recording time and will display a list of your new messages on the handset’s illuminated display. You can also access your messages from anywhere in the world thanks to the remote operation function. For extra convenience, the answering machine lets you individually select the recording time for messages and even gives you the option to record phone calls."
Unless I'm missing something glaring obvious, that is?0 -

Really? Why would that be? Were they not accused of hacking GSM mobile phone voicemail accounts rather than IP based short range cordless phones?0 -
Mr-Oink, thank you !!!
Manual that came with phones has 27 pages of info !
After seing what you found, and downloading the online manual, it has 219 pages !!!!!!!!
Info I needed was on page 79, so thank you again.

Have just found a headphone socket on the phone, so anything with a 2.5mm jack connector can fit.
Is there something that will connect the phone to my PC ?
(I already have Audacity on my PC)Baby-Mechanic
