IE8 Tab Problem - Freezing Tabs

Hi all,

I'm on the point of tearing my hair out!!! I shall illustrate my problem with the events so far...

A couple of days ago I noticed the following things...
  • When opening a link in a new tab (press the scroll button on the mouse) sometimes it would work as usual but other times the whole thing would freeze, a new tab would open but freeze on 'Connecting...' and the link would open in a new window.
The only way to remove these 'Connecting...' tabs and close IE is to Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
  • When googling and opening a link I would get redirected to various different ad sites.
  • Lots more ad pop-ups were appearing when on sites that don't usually generate these (i.e. MSE).
Ran Avira full scan (found nothing) and Spyware scan which found a few fairly harmless things which I removed anyway.

Yesterday hijacked by Malware (Security Systems 2009). Downloaded Malewarebyte's Anti-Malware. Had to run in Safe mode and couldn't run any programmes due to the malware blocking them.

This removed the Malware problem but the IE problem persists. Well at least the tab and pop-up problem, googling seems ok at present.

I've been googling the problem all day and done various fixes. I have done the following (and nothing has worked hence why I'm here):

Updating Adobe Flash.
Removed Avira and downloaded AVG, ran full scan - nothing found.
Run the Anti-Malware programme again - nothing found.
Opened IE with no-add ons - made no difference.
Checked no Google Toolbar add-on and that the Java add-on was disabled.
Reset IE defaults.
Done the first two methods here -> http://webtrickz.com/how-to-fix-open-in-new-tabwindow-problem-in-ie8/

Any ideas?!!?! Oh and I'm in no ways techie so lament terms if possible!

    Please run COMBOFIX
    http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
    Shut down your anti virus
Follow the simple instructions it gives
Post the COMPLETE log it creates here (Split into sections if need be) ~ if there are loads of 'SNAPSHOT' pages then leave them out

If it comes up with a RENAMING error then RIGHT click the exe file and RENAME and call it QWERTY (Making the complete file name 'QWERTY.exe') Or SAVE as 'QWERTY' on download
(If no log comes up or you lose it, COMBOFIX.TXT can be found in C drive)

Not sure what I've done now... I tried downloading it, hadn't turned AVG off properly, turned it off properly (after googling how), tried downloading it and now it's saying I've got a corrupt download??!

    Can't find it anywhere...
