This thread, below, has been posted on the Ebay Board but I don't think the experts from Techie Stuff will see it over there.
Can anyone help, please, on how to deal with the problem?
I have had the warning message pop up about three times and am alarmed as someone on the thread has said his PC has now died after having the warning messages.
Thanks!

most obvious step is to ensure windows updates fully done
www.windowsupdate.com
make sure Java up to date

make sure Flash is up to date

Thanks Browntoa.
I'm using google chrome, should I still use the windows update?
I went to filehippo and clicked on the update checker tool and I got warning message that the file may harm my computer. Any advice gratefully received.0 -

Yes if you don't want it to become even more insecure than it already is.0 -

Apparently there is an rogue Java update doing the rounds as well, if a Java update popped up whilst/just after viewing images on eBay and you downloaded it uninstall it from add/remove.
Run CCleaner and then download JavaRa, run it and click on "remove older versions".
If required reinstall the latest Java.0 -

OMG
I have my Java set to update at 6.00 on the 25 of every month (and i cant change it for some reason)
I had an update on Friday (update 24) and installed it this morning.
The worrying thing is i had been viewing Ebay and i had had a trojan horse blocked message from AVAST.
I am pretty sure though that the JAVA update appeared early Friday morning but i just hadn't installed it.
How would you know if it was a rogue update???0 -
Your Java update will be the official one. If it wasn't, then you would already be seeing the dreaded System Tools screen.
Btw, IObits Systemcare deals with the menace according to a friend who tried the bleepingcomputer instructions to find it was still there, then used combofix which failed to find it, then as an act of desperation installed the IObits suite, and heypresto.Never Knowingly Understood.
