Tesco Clubcard Deals - Beware

Hi there,

Thanks to this site I have discovered that using my clubcard vouchers for tesco clubcard deals is better value except for the Hilton Hotels (there may be others but I was looking to book the Hilton).

I phoned to ask how much it was for one night B&B & was told £116 :o (no changes no refunds for a suite (special occasion) so went to the clubcard site & started the changeover to clubcard deal tokens. I phoned the Hilton to see if they could hold the room until the vouchers came through - no problem until they quoted the price £145  , as this is Tesco's Corporate rate I can't avail of the same room at the £116 price if I use Tesco Clubcard Deals.

This means that I have to pay £29 more to use my vouchers therefore using my voucher is not as valuable.

Has anyone else come across similar senarios?

Thanks

Oh dear, that's not very good, is it? :(

I've not used my vouchers since I found out about the deals being better value. I am saving them for a weekend away with the OH and really hoppe we can have one next year. The vouchers don't come as quickly now that I am careful about food shopping

Anyway, thanks for letting us know about this. It's not very encouraging :(

I have noticed this one when trying to use for hotels.... I contact the hotel and THEY told me what date I could use them and again like you have found it was more expensive than I could find on laterooms.co.uk
  • Thank you for this. This was something I was planning on doing, specifically at the Hilton. Am somewhat disappointed with what you have said, and will have to look into what other deals I want to use my vouchers on.
  • Hey,
Thanks for this......got to say I've found this with quite a few of the travel deals :(

Tend to find the restaurant / bar deals the best value......no problem with eating or drinking :o

This is standard with most, if not all, of Tesco's clubcard deals on hotels and holidays. For the holidays you pay the brochure price and can chose only from specific brochures. With the hotels you pay a particular rate. These are still good deals - for a £100 hotel room you use £25 of clubcard vouchers. A room that you could have got for £116 will, at £145 , cost £36.25 in Tesco vouchers.

I have used Marriott and Hilton offers and have found them good value.

    Not even wrong
  • Hi,

Thanks for the replies, I had £10 of tesco vouchers so have used them to book dinner instead, much better value.

    Thanks again

I found exactly the same with the magazine subscriptions. I could get a price online that was about two-thirds of the tesco price.

Also RAC membership, i could have found it cheaper from a leaflet that fell out of the newspaper than the Tesco price.

I must be the only one here who uses Tesco vouchers to shop at Tesco :-p

I know we're not meant to, but I can never find anything that I want! Hotel bookings, holidays, etc... I'd rather get a bag of spuds and a loaf of bread TBH.
