I used it on my face after surgery left me with 2 scars. Although the scars werent that bad they are now barely visible unless you are really looking.

He had his ops at RNOH Stanmore and the surgeons stitching is something else lol wish I could sew like that!
    D :D

Just had to quote you on that - I had major surgery on my neck and shoulder at RNOH Stanmore....I've always said if I need anything sewing up I'd send it to the surgeon that sewed me up!! I wonder if your son had the same surgeon as I had? They were certainly a top team there.

I massaged E45 cream into my scar (6 inches long, around the base of my neck) religiously for six months post op after the stitches had healed and its barely noticeable now. Not sure if thats as a result of the E45 or the handiwork of the surgeon....or a combination of both, but regardless it worked for me. I tried Bio Oil at first but it was too messy and too expensive so switched to E45.

I was under Professor Carlstedt. I wonder if it is the surgeons who do the stitching up, or if they have an 'assistant' that does that? I often think if the 'stitcher' ever wonders how neat the scar will look in 6 to 12 months post op as some of them will not see the patient again. I've got to say (again), whoever was responsible for stitching me back together should e very proud of their handiwork. :D

Barbiedoll - I am sure the little pamper set will be appreciated. My Mum gave me a pamper set post op and I really appreciated....just a few small, quite random toiletries....I think the randomness was what cheered me up! At 35, a girl is always greatful for flowers and chocolates, but for a recovering 13 year old, I have no doubt that the pamper set would be thoroughly enjoyed....perhaps you could include (if you haven't already) some nail varnish. Painted nails always seem to pick me up a bit.

I tried everything on my scar, non of the potions worked. In the end I have steroid injections. Quick, pretty painless and have made a massive difference. Available for free on the NHS. HTH someone.

Looking at the ingredients for Bio Oil it looks vastly overpriced. You could make your own with a base oil/butter and some essential oils. Rosehip, comfrey and arnica are known to be healing, any butter will be lovely and moisturising, and there are lots of essential oils that are good for the skin and smell nice.

I have found NOTHING better than a silicone gel called Dermatix. I had heart surgery and was left with a large scar on my chest but started using this weeks after and its amazing. Its pricey but available on prescription (but you may have to be persistent as some docs dont like giving out prescriptions more expensive products)
    Good Luck.

I developed a keloid scar when I got my pacemaker implanted (unlucky, apparently it's really rare in white people).

    I've got them too!

I first got them due to spots on my back in my early twenties, they still appear on my chest from time to time, I'm a bit of a dot to dot puzzle really... and yes I'm white!

I did get sent for steroid "injections" but that didn't work either - and even with Emla cream they hurt like h£ll!

I've tried bio-oil but it doesn't me - it does smell wonderful though and leaves my skin feeling nice.

OP, I think you could give the girl a book or something to keep her occupied as she recovers, and give her Mum the bio-oil to use on her ( I assume the girl will be able to put it on her own back just yet)

hope she has a swift recovery :)

ali have you tried kelocote? you get it from the dr but it works quite well in combination with healan tape which is basically a steroid sellotape that reduces keloids.

I'd had 3 previous surgeries and never got a keloid before, the pacemaker one was just random lol.
