Yes, that's what I'm thinking now too. For example, has anyone here tried changing the PIN for a UK-issued card on a non-UK cash machine?

there was one option but obv @ Santander in Spain (considering i had a santander account)

Unfortunately you will not be able to change your PIN anywhere except in Germany.

I now have UK, Spanish and US debit and credit cards and have never been able to change the PIN of any of the cards abroad. For UK cards you can only do it in UK cash machines that support PIN services, for Spanish cards you can only do it at Spanish ATMs and so on.

Even a Santander UK debit card won't allow the PIN to be changed at a Santander ATM in Spain.

Similarly, balance enquiries abroad are almost impossible. The only exception I have found is a Citibank UK debit card. It offers the same services at any Citibank worldwide ATM as in Citibank UK ATMs. Except PIN services...

There was an option, but have you actually tried to change it? It won't allow you.

I am not sure what the charges are - could you make a low value online charity donation in the currency of the issuing bank (to check the card is still active)"donate worldpay" will yield some results for that

But would you need to provide the PIN to do that?

If the PIN had been incorrectly entered a number of times, would it prevent the card being used online when the PIN is not required?

No - you don't need the Pin for that

and the card would still work online if the PIN had been blocked - they use "verified by visa" for online transactions
