Vodafone was I told correct answer?

Hi,

I had my phone with a vodafone payg sim taken (I know who has it but won't give it back) I cancelled the sim last night and was told a new one would be posted to me. Saw a sim in the shop today for 99p so thought might as well get that and just get the number transferred to that sim rather than wait for the post. Problem is when I called I was told it will take at least 24 hours to be done, is that correct?

I only ask becasue the person I spoke to didn't have the best knowledge and at one point tried telling me he would sort it and get it transfered and went to hang up without even taking the number of the new sim card! Not going to be easy to put a number onto a sim without the number is it?
