My thoughts too!! Maybe i was lucky last year but our apartment was clean and although basic was well equipped with everything we needed. As a single parent on a budget i was just glad to get away tbh and the kids had a fab time, the bluecoats really made a fuss of them and we even had a go on the ice rink. After having been on a haven the previous year we found the entertainment and facilities better and the staff friendlier.0 -

Haven't been to Southport, am going this year:j:j but went to Prestatyn last year and had a fab time, lots to do in the area and lots of entertainment and activities going on at the site x0 -
I use to go to pontins all over the country as a child, and had so many happy fun times, so I took my 3 children last year to the presthaven sands one, god it was like stepping back in a time wrap, nothing had changed in the 20yrs since I had been, the chalet was minging, had payed that bit extra for their club class ones, well, to put it midly, I am not putting my childrens life in danger, the door was hanging of the frame!!, the hand rail outside the apartment was broken and their was a 12 foot drop onto hard concrete, the bath had god only knows what in it, there were still dishes and food lift in the sink, they did offer me the only basic chalet they had left, and that was dire, so we headed straight back home.
I am a camper and have stayed in better fields!!!!.
you do get what you pay for, but a travel lodge would be cheaper and cleaner, that is what we do now, and have been all over england in a travel lodge, as well as camping in the summer months.0 -

And right next to the beach too. I love it there. As has been said, its basic but surely holidays are about spending time with your family. I don't remember anything about the state of anywhere I stayed as a child but I do remember being with my mum, dad and brother.0 -

prestatyn is great - clean
southport is horrible - dirty and feels like a prison camp (but the bluecoats are great)
we went to southport 2 years ago and almost left after one hour - in the end we went and bought sheets and towels from the local morrisons to put on the floor so we could get about in the apartment (i'm afraid it is that bad and i am not a snob)0 -

Not if you end up with health problems such as scabies!!! No matter how much money you spend, holidays are about having somewhere nice to sleep on a clean mattress and in a clean apartment. Just because you do not pay much money it should not make a difference. It should not be 'you get what you pay for'. Sure the rooms can be basic but they should be CLEAN and well maintained. I've not experienced wither at Pontins.
Would you be happy with mattresses on the floor because you had not paid much? Or maybe coachroaches would be acceptable because you have not paid much so should not expect it to be clean.
If you just accept that level of standard then the company will only give that level of standard. If people accept dirty chalets then why would the company be in a rush to change them if they can get away with it?
A holiday should be somewhere you go to get away from housework and the stresses of daily life. Not having to arrive and clean the chalet from top to bottom before you can even unpack - how is that stress free? If other companies can manage it on a budget then so should Pontins. It is sheer laziness on the part of the company IMO.0 -
I've stayed at Haven in Caister which was lovely.
Also been to The Orchards and i fully agree, terrible place!0 -
Went to Prestatyn last year for a cheap break. The cleaning standards do fall way below what you would expect, it is not hazardous but it is grimy. I was prepared and took cleaning stuff and spent an hour cleaning the apartment because it was better than no holiday! The bathroom needed a full bleaching and none of the furniture had been wiped or dusted. The bedding and beds were spotless but the carpet was pretty black and the furniture is very basic. If you are prepared to clean or aren't really bothered about dirt it's ok as a base but don't expect hotel standards.
Initially I thought perhaps they weren't giving the staff enough time to clean to save money but when we left I saw them spending about an hour in 1 apartment so I guess they need to give their cleaners a kick up the backside!0
