  • Bonnington, I think the time may have come for you to explain to Mrs B (and the offspring maybe) about monkeys.

We all have problems, hassles and stresses that we carry around with us like monkeys on our backs. You're currently carrying a secret debt monkey which is less of one of those cute little fruit-eating shoulder sitters and more a huge orangutan that's trying to rub poo into your hair. You've got your DIY monkey and your work monkey and your other money-making-ventures monkey, all of them sitting on your shoulders weighing you down.

Sometimes people ask us to help them with their monkeys or even to take them off them completely. And if we're relatively monkey-free ourselves, it's not a problem - we gladly help out by lending money or time or just a listening ear. But we can only carry a certain number of monkeys at any time. You, Mr B, seem dangerously close to your monkey limit at the moment and Mrs B has just handed you her eBay monkey. It might only be a little tea-cup-sized monkey (probably clutching a slice of banana and looking at you with huge brown eyes), but enough of these tiny monkeys added to your own monkey pile, day after day, will eventually make you collapse under the weight.

The next time someone in your family or at work tries to palm off one of their monkeys onto you, please consider smiling at them sweetly and saying 'I'm sorry, that's not my monkey' (even just to see the look of confusion on their faces ;)) and leaving them to deal with it by themselves. If you refuse to accept the daily bombardment of tiny monkeys you'll be in better shape to tackle the big ones you carry around yourself.

(you're probably thinking I'm mad as a box of frogs now, but trust me, this works!)

Mr Bonnington, please go back to bed and get out the other side ! No-one was calling you a liar. .. A little subserviant to your lazy family maybe, but not a liar.
Now pick up your self and get your butt back in here, I for one enjoy your diary. If you dont, Im coming doon south with my picking hammer and picking out all that lovely lime mortar , thats not an idle threat, i did it with our old house, so Im an experienced picker and pointer ! :)

  • Aw bonnington, please don't leave! I've been reading & lurking on your diary for a few weeks now, & have read & enjoyed the whole thread.

I think the poster above was just amazed at how much you do for your family & how little support - emotionally, practically etc - you get in return. It makes me sad that you seem to be so unappreciated. If I'd forgotten a University book or ordered it to be delivered to the wrong address, I think my parents would've told me to take a running jump if I'd asked them to personally deliver it! We're just looking out for you.

Your diary appealed to me as we used to live near Bonnington (the area) in our capital city & my DH taught there.

Please don't stop posting - you can't please everybody all the time. I'd really miss you round these parts.

  • Morning Bonnington

Well done on the surveys. £110 is an impressive amount.

I have found money this week to be running away from me. I have started using an online money diary. Someone on MSE suggested it and I hope this link works.

My husband spends nothing during the week and only uses cash. I am the person that keeps the cards in check so its down to me to sort it all out.

Hope you have a good day today.

So glad to see that you did not disappear as you threatened, I would be really sorry not to see you posting. Your diary is one of the few that I look forward to reading, you come across as such a kind caring busy man.

So much for your peaceful weekend then Mr B !
Might be worth a chat to the doc, sounds like a minor inner ear infection, best get it checked out in case it gets worse.

I remember those postal surveys, we found them more trouble than the worth of them, so gave up. You can only use so many large letter stamps !

Hope the weather holds fine for your DW holiday jobs, it will be grand for you to get a hand in making the home more beautiful.

Thank you for coming back, i wasn't looking forwards to picking off your render !
