Going back to Skye we would like to go and see it. We had thought of this coming week-end but will probably still have snow. :(
Hopefully we can see it one week-end. Trouble is this time of the year there are only two ferries a day.

Is it a massive detour for you to drive round to the bridge? With what CalMac charge these days, I should think the extra fuel would probably work out cheaper!

Glendale is coming into its own again with 2 cafes and the post office, a good community feel with having the village hall as well. I've always used the bridge and spectacularly broke down on it last year!

  • What an uggber about Skye :( Would a former Youth Hostel near John O'Groats be of any interest? With the regeneration work going on there and Wick airport being renamed Wick-John o'Groats, there's a lot of money going in to making it a Land's End-type tourist destination.

Alternatively, this has been on the market for a few years: http://www.futurepropertyauctions.co.uk/property_details.asp?id=56236

It's a former nursing home and would convert to a hotel very easily. The bank is desperate to offload it, they've been trying to sell it since 2008 (reading between the lines of the legal pack, the owner remortgaged for £400k and promptly disappeared with the cash, so it's a repossession). It went to auction before Christmas with a guide of £240k and failed to get a bid, they've now dropped to £185k and might well take a lower offer. It's a beautiful, beautiful house and if I had the cash I'd take it on in a heartbeat!
  • No probs :) I'm a frustrated property developer really ;)

Well done on 'getting it sorted',it could soon be another thing crossed off your list of things to do. I bet it will help the breathing.
Maybe get you off CPAP: you don't know until you try.

It seems a lot to spend when you do it all in one go but I bet you have saved by researching prices carefully and in the long run it could save you money on all sorts of things, even insurance. Well done !:j

Not sure whether we will look to move into a caravan and rent our property while we are trying to sell.

Hi Bonnington, been lurking for a while, but thought I would delurk to comment on this.

We had a property a while back that we were trying to sell for a while due to moving areas. We considered renting it out, but our estate agents advised us against it due to the fact that the initial lease would have to be for 6 months, which could put buyers off.

Also, there is the problem of having to get your mortgage company to agree to it being rented and they may change your rate.

Finally, if you do decide to go ahead, remember that in Scotland all landlords/properties have to be registered for rental - there is a £50k fine for not doing so.

Hugs Mr B, so sorry to hear that Mrs B is feeling poorly again. It really must be a strain on you. Good luck with the house sale.
