    I work in the NHS and am responsible for the issue of smartcards to staff in my local area. Its worth noting that the reader in your keyboard is only one of 3 eliments that you will need to use the card. You will need the card itself, or to be precise the magnetic chip with the data that is stored on it and most importantly some software to read and authenticate it as well as a programme that can use it as a method of logging in. For anyone interested details on the NHS smartcards are here:

    The chips hold 2 digital certificates which are used in the authentication process and details of the software are here:

    If anyone really wants more on this please ask, I can bore for England on this having been involved in the development for many years now.

    Why don't you set up the accounts on the PC instead of faffing around with smart cards?

    Yeah, sort of, but the fact I had the keyboard already, thought I'd find out if this was an easy thing to do.

    Is this a shared computer, what OS are you running how will you integrate the key card in to the system?
