Dell Smart Card keyboards

Is this a stupidly simple question?

Where do you get the smart cards for those Dell Keyboards. I want to be able to use them as a login card if possible.

They state use a Iso 7816, but having trouble locating them. Don't tell me these are like credit card blanks so impossible to source.

I guesss you can write and read them with the software provided.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Your best bet would be to ring Dell! They are used in my doctor's surgery, but they just get supplied at time of PC purchase from wherever they get them.

  • That second link is an American site so not sure if he would want to deal with them as there will be parcel duties to pay at destination.

    .

Very easy to source if you've got the right connections I imagine

Is it a "chip" card it uses or a magnetic strip? Mag strip blanks are really easy to source IIRC.

    @ Kilty
It's a "Smart Card" (it's the round metal gold bit on credit and sky viewing cards) not a magnetic stripe card.

They are not easy to get unless you but in bulk (50-100 cards at around £2 per card!!!)

Yeah you're right - just found one seller selling them for £99.95/100.
  • Your doctors surgery will use the NHS issued smart cards to access the national NHS systems, so they wont be ones supplied from dell, although they'll use dell keyboards.

We use them at work - they are the magnetic chip and pin type cards.

    Thinking laterally here!!

Satellite viewing boxes and PC adapters use Smart cards, you can usually find retailers selling single blank smart cards for between £4 & £20.

    Try here: http://www.maxking.co.uk/high-tech-smart-cards/
you could send them a question in their contact form about the Dell keyboard and wither these cards would be compatible.

not sure if it's possible to reprogram those.
If you've got the Dell software / drivers for the keyboard smart card device, give it a go...
