Silvermaid - do you have a recipe you can share for this? I saw Something For the Weekend this morning and they made goulash but with beef sausages and chorizo. I'm veggie so I was going to attempt it with Quorn sausages, but a bean one sounds yummy

Afternoon,
Lovely day here today, have been pottering about in greenhouse & have planted some more seeds, jalapeno peppers & some marigolds today. I have already got bell peppers & summer cabbage started & will shortly be making some paper pots to start some sweet peas off. Need to plant some more coriander as that didn't make it through the winter & have also got some borage & camomile seeds to plant.
Washing is on the line, school uniform is all ready for DS for tomorrow, although I am not sure he will be going as one side of his face is all swollen & he is complaining of toothache
hope it goes down tonight otherwise he will be having a grumpy birthday tomorrow.
Roast pork in oven, (hopefully enough for two days as only three of us eat it) & veg prepared & I think I will make a trifle for afters.
RR hope your DF is happier & that it works out for you all.
Jackieg I am very close to doing the same as you, stick to your guns girl.:)
Ubamother love your solution, I might just try that next time DS & his cronies are sitting on the bench in the front garden.
Hugs, spoons & Hi5's as needed x

hiya everyone
Had a good day yesterday, we sorta made it my birthday as OH starts his new job tomorrow and will be away training all week so won't be here on my actual birthday.
Went up Hanley because I wanted to find out what size I was in a Jacques Vert dress as have been looking at some on ebay for my sons wedding later this year, unfortunately I tried an outfit on and fell in love with it, but with dress, jacket, hat, bag, shoes it comes to well over £500! I really cannot afford/justify that amount will be checking ebay every day!
We then had pub meal, OH's eldest, gf and DGD joined us. Then we went to cinema to see West is West, for those who remember East is East the biggest laugh was when the kids ran down the street and said the whiteys are coming :rotfl:
Today I have cleaned kitchen, even the tops of the cupboards and the bathroom, the rest will get a lick and a promise during the week and it will be living room and bedrooms time next week for a big clean.
Tea tonight is lamb steaks, mash, broccoli, sprouts, swede and braised red cabbage. Should be enough veg leftovers to see me through the week, will be a pub meal on Wednesday as DSD feels sorry for me as OH will be away and wants to take me out for my bd.
OH has gone out to look at a car (I really miss the shruggy smiley) I thought the [STRIKE]tank[/STRIKE] car he got at the end of last year was the love of his life, but aparently he says everyone needs to grow up at some point and is looking for a sensible one! He did prep all the veg before he went bless lol
Hope you are enjoying your Sunday, hugs for those who are not having a good day xxxwhoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

Dear Flutterby who makes me envious of her views of the harbour,
This is what I do for Bean Goulash (Serves 4)
225g dried beans soaked & drained (or I use 400g canned Borlotti or kidney beans drained and rinsed)
2 tbsp olive oil
1 large onion finely chopped
4 Celery stalks finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic, minced
½ tsp caraway seeds
3 medium peppers (preferably one each of green, red and yellow), cut into small chunks
8 oz (225 g) mushrooms, quartered
2 tbsp paprika
¼ tsp. Tabasc0
1 tsp mixed herbs
400g can chopped tomatoes
1 tblsp Tomato puree
½ can of water
Stock cube or vegetable bouillon
1 tsp Marmite
Optional - Sour cream or yoghurt to serve, with rice or jacket potatoes, grated cheese and garlic bread
If using dried beans cook in boiling unsalted water for 3 hr or until tender and then drain.
Heat oil in a large saucepan, then fry the onion, celery & garlic for about 4 mins until beginning to soften.
Add caraway seeds and fry for 1 min
Add the peppers, mushroom and garlic, and cook for another five minutes.
Add tabasc0, mixed herbs & paprika and cook for a further min,
Stir in the tomatoes, ½ can of water, stock cube, tomato puree & marmite.
Simmer gently for 10 mins until thickened and glossy.
Tip in the beans and continue to cook for a further 10 mins and ... eat or
Stir in sour cream or yoghurt and... eat, or ..
Spoon onto warm rice or baked potato, with possibly garlic bread & grated cheese
If you try this I hope you enjoy, Silver x
p. s. I use these ingredients, hope I haven't left out an instruction in the method. let me know if I have xOutside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

Yep Jackie, if I remember correctly he said it was 'his baby & the love of his life' :rotfl: (Have to say, I hate it, we used to have a range rover and I quite liked that, this one feels like sitting in a tank!)
He is now looking for a mondeo estate, we need the estate bit for all the camping stuff. Whatever, boys and their toys, I don't drive it so not really a lot I can say!
Have just had a disaster with my dough, wanted to make some rolls, set the BM for dough setting as usual, put the ingredients in as usual, the most stickiest mess came out, have managed to get it off my hands and stuck it in piles on baking sheets, if they turn out ok they will look very rustic :rotfl::rotfl:whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

Mmm, that bean goulash sounds delicious!!! Recipe noted

The sun is shining here in Norwich too - quite nice to sit here looking out the window. Unfortunately, although I would love to go for a nice long walk or something, my DP is here and he's not very well so I have to play nurse and sit here listening to his snoring shaking the whole room
I treated myself to a very lovely purple orchid from M&S yesterday so I need to water/feed that today and it's watering day for my aloes and spider plants too.
When DP wakes up, we need to do the meal plans and the ASDA online shopping for the week. Is it wrong that I kind of enjoy that bit?
Yesterday I started with '5 minute bread' - you can bake a fresh loaf of bread every day with no kneading and keep the dough in the fridge for up to two weeks. You can read details and see my pics on the other thread here.
Popped into the local 99p store this morning and bought a mexican fusion growing kit - contains seeds for tomatoes, chillis and pinto beans so those will be potted up this afternoon.
I had a moment of weakness on Friday and treated myself to a new Morphy Richards Soup Maker from Makro online... They sent me an email saying they were selling them for £47 and the cheapest I'd seen elsewhere is £99. You just put the ingredients in and turn it on and it cooks the soup and whizzes it up in 15mins. I know I can do it myself with a stick blender but to be honest I'm sick of cleaning soup off the walls after the stick blender flings it over the kitchen! I must admit, kitchen gadgets are a little bit of a weakness of mine
We're off to the local Weatherspoons just up the road later on today for a roast dinner. Got paid on Friday and we always go out for dinner the following sunday so I don't have to do a roast
Need to do some washing at some point too tonight but right now, I'm off to have some bread and jam with a nice homemade latte (with my Aeropress and Latteccino machines of course, told you I love gadgets!)

Afternoon all,
Late posting today and having a cba day. I have roasted a large piece of pork which will do 2 or 3 meals but don't know what to make with it. I have potaoes for mash and carrots and cauliflower but I find cauliflower a bit boring, I don't know, just not feeling it today.:(
My Ebay business is really picking up and sold 5 things overnight so that's good.
Flutterbyuk- I really liked the look of the goulash on Something for the weekend but will make it with leftover pork and chorizo
DH and DS3 have gone to the driving range and DS2 has gone to the Trafford Centre with his new on off GF.
My DB has a kindle and loves it to bits but I really like the look and feel and smell of a proper book, plus I love going to the library and mooching. I think they are the most peaceful places on earth.
Ruby- glad your dads home and I really hope it works out for you all.
Well should really get on and finish dinner but just might have a snooze instead:D not like me as I'm normally a busy bee, guess I just need a rest today.Started Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.
Working hard to get rid of our debt.0 -
Really trying to watch the budget as no additional work coming our way to aid the pension at the moment so just started reading this forum for help and ideas!
Today
1) done washing and NOT using dryer have hung on the Pulleymaid in kitchen and they will dry overnight.
2) Walked to local market for bargain free range eggs and also got some Bramley apples on offer ready for next batch of chutney
3) Didn't go in for coffee while we were out and came home for lovely home made latte - DH is getting so much use out of his coffee machine it's great
4) Home made soup for lunch from friends recipe - just onions, lentils, curry powder, cumin, stock cube (also chucked in last 3 carrots left from last weeks shopping rather than waste them).
5) Turned off heating and both put jumpers on until family are arriving for tea (reduced chicken portions to be cooked in oven with reduced fennel and potato and sweet potato wedges)
Thanks for more useful ideas every time I read the forum!:TBe nice to each other
