Help Please Laptop Infected

I got this too on my PC, as did 2 of my friends this weekend!
Does anyone know how we got infected with this virus even though we are running up-to-date antivirus programmes? (all using Avast). One friend suggested that we should buy Norton Security for 3 Computers from Amazon and split the cost between us - do you think this would offer more protection than Avast?0 -
All our anti virus uptodate too and all using avast. I have asked my son and they were just browsing e bay they did not do anything different and did not open any emails first. I am worried about using ebay now though incase my laptop is next.0
