Please avoid PCW! They're not cheap, and more importantly if you need any after-sales support or service you're going to be horribly disappointed.
Absolutely any low-end laptop will easily do the tasks you mention, no need to spend more than £350-400. Most important first thing is to get the right screen size, if it's a desktop replacement then you should be looking at 17" laptops, given your budget.

Most laptops are all made in a couple of big laptop factories in Taiwan so that different branded laptops are actually the same thing. All the big names do is buy in a chassis, rebadge it,package it and up the price.

So your Toshiba laptop underneath,is just a bought in box with their badges on....

No need to pay premium rates for a fancy badge.

Having said that, Tosh and HP do some great value machines and thats all most of us need.

You need to go to Ebuyers or Dabs..not PCW.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Bit quiet on the laptop deals front. I'd say the HP is best value (but questionable quality?); despite the better processor, not sure if its £150 better than https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Lenovo_B550_1029392.html

Lenovo are distinctly unglamorous, but seem to be solid machines. The Hyundai analogy was a good one.

  • It seem to me that you dont have a lot of expierence with computers so I would say sit down and think about what you may use your laptop for in the furture as well.

So you can purchase a laptop that is not only fit for your needs now but also fit for your needs in a years time or so.

Depending on how much office work you plan on doing you could go for a netbook what will do everything you need to do. Of course if you spend hours in front of the laptop, or plan on doing lots of office work it may not be the best choice.

Most people go for 15" Laptops as the screen is a good size for most task so usally is the perfered choice for most people.

You would not really need a high spec laptop for the tasks you wish to do like internet, office work so on.

You may also want to think about office as it is not install on the laptop already and you would have to purchase this. You could use openoffice if you wished to save on buying office.

A lot of people say avoide PCW but I think it does depends on what store u go to.

Ebuyer is another good location to look at laptops.

As far as makes go Hp are good Toshbia are good Dell are ok as long you dont have to ring there customer services. I would avoid Advent

    I hope this helps

Again, entirely superfluous for the tasks you have mentioned-on board graphics will do the job perfectly well.
That Lenovo is a good spec (plenty of RAM, big hard drive, the right OS). Bit skimpy with only 3 USB ports though.

  • I do tend to need at least three USB's for mouse, card reader, printer etc...
Maybe my business use is higher than it sounded I do use it most days for a few hours and do accounts sage etc... on it.
I don't have a home PC so my laptop does it all,I am currently on a very tired DEll inspiron 1300

The Lenovo has a built in card reader.
Inspiron 1300 should still do the job but you'll need to have the full 2GB of RAM installed to make it reasonably fast.
