Hi
I have up to £600 to spend (would like to spend around £450 really)
I need laptop for internet, emails and some light small business activities
Which is the best overall I have no idea and don't want to get talked into the wrong thing in the store
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/packard-bell-easynote-tx86-go-035uk-06539233-pdt.html

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/toshiba-satellite-l655-17v-pink-07787028-pdt.html
Or is there a machine I should be looking at with equal spec ?
Thank you in advance for helping a confused middle aged laptop buyer :rotfl:

Bit like Hyundai and Volkswagon of the pc world. If you haven't heard of them then do not go buying a lappy in pc world on your own.
edit - common opinion on this forum is to avoid DSG group ,currys,pc world. Think they have been on tv watchdog type progs for bad tactics and/or they are regarded as incompetant at least.
edit again: have a look at the latest posts in the laptop thread as things do change. Try not to rush into buying anything.0 -
Thats why i'm here :-(
Acer
HP

Asus and Toshiba are good quality whereas HP are generally lower quality. A local computer repair shop who also sells laptops has stopped stocking HP laptops due to quality concerns. See attached report http://www.squaretrade.com/htm/pdf/SquareTrade_laptop_reliability_1109.pdf0

Have you tried Novatech the biggest independent computer supplier in the UK personally I would not use PC WORLD OR CURRYS as there technical support and sales are c**p.
They are also more expensive

As you will the specs of these are superior to a similar priced product at pc world.0 -

 Lenovo is the "new" IBM, possibly the best machines you can buy. ASUS is getting there... HP, packard bell: leave them, they are ovepriced pieces of plastic. I had an overall good experience with Toshiba laptops though (I like the bright screens) and I'd recommend one if others here agree.
going back to the OP: the machines you linked to are overkill for what you need, you could probably be happy with a 2nd hand Dell Inspiron 1300 1.6 (£90-100 on ebay).*_*_* Department of Redundancy Department *_*_*0 -
