Malky, we have just bought a kitchen for about £5.5k - but that is purely cupboards. There are plenty of ways to buy a kitchen more cheaply but different people have different budgets and different expectations. We wanted something that gave the wow factor to our kitchen - maybe the op had similar ideas.

    God, I hate that phrase.

Christ on a bike, 7K+ on a kitchen is lunacy unless you happen to be Donald Trump.

I often wonder just how people get in the situations you read about on this forum but when you see stuff like this, it doesn't take much imagination.

maybe its a blessing in disguise!

maybe i am a fool, i didn't know that was such a high price for a kitchen? it sems to be the going rate to have a new kitchen and it fitted from most places i looked... b&q charge as much to fit it as the cost of the kitchen... this is why its so expensive.

i shall re think my approach to this... might need to get my husband busy with his diy books!

Very easy to spend several thousand on a kitchen, really depends on size, b+q do some more expensive kitchens only a few though.

I have worked on a kitchen that was 70k for the joinery alone, have to say it was the size of a small 3 bed semi though.

have a HSBC credit card with a 10k limit have about 1.5k on
Why don't you pay for the kitchen on your credit card?

the loan was for 6500.00 over 5 years payments were about £100.00 a monh no more than that.
Are you sure as this would only result in you repaying £6000.

Maybe just buy the kitchen from B&Q and get quotes from a builder to fit? Could work out cheaper. Get references though.

Right now there are plenty of joiners and carpenters out there that are short of work with the new build house work not being what it was... Willing to bet you can get someone MUCH cheaper to fit the kitchen you decide on whatever it is!

Right - as for why you were refused credit - get a copy of your credit report! It could be an error on your report, it could be (not meaning to worry you) that as you are linked to your partner on the mortgage and HE has bad credit (that you might not know about!) and that will seriously impact YOUR ability to get credit so long as you are financially linked...

You need to check your report and find out what is on there... (actually could be something as simple as the B&Q person entering some details wrong on your application... but you need to check your report regardless!)

You're not a fool at all - it's no one else's business where you buy a kitchen from and how much it costs. People should keep opinions on these matters to themselves - especially as you didn't ask for advise on the cost of the kitchen...

As far as answering your actual question goes - like the other helpful people said - you need to check your report and look for unsavoury data.

It's a public forum, people post to get others opinions :rotfl:
