    The O.P wanted to pay with Paypal who do their own checks.

    I have bought countless items over the internet using debit/credit cards and am not aware of ever having had credit checks carried out. Usually it is a simple procedure of making sure the delivery address is the same as the one the card is registered to.

    Some companies interpret money laundering/fraud prevention in ways the legislation never intended. It is all computer controlled, and if the computer says no, then no human common sense is allowed to intervene.

    For a parallel, look at the THINK 25 campaign supermarkets run, even though the legal age for alcohol purchase is 18.

    One day large retailers will wake up and realize they are alienating their customers big time, and are actually losing sales because of it.
