Yes you could paint the baths and buckets if you wanted to.

Maybe a bit more muted than this if you don`t want bright colours though.

My husband painted an old wheelbarrow with hammerite paint, bored some holes in the bottom and we planted it up with trailing plants round the edges and fuchsias in the middle.

Great I´m glad you are going to do one too Eric´s mum. We will have to upload our photos later in the year. I put my barrells in situ today.

I have extremely thick blue polythene and I´m wondering if I could just use that instead of special pond liner?

Nice painted items psso. I think I will paint the smaller bath (actually it might not even be a bath!).

Weve painted some of the wooden items in the garden with some lovely muted colours in the last couple of years - the paint is Cuprinol Garden Shades - they are beautiful and you can get some ideas which to match and use here: We used the Heritage Colours. My little garden arbor looks gorgeous in wild tyme and country cream. But we have painted the sheds in various shades - the pale blue with cream also looks lovely, looks like a little seaside chalet rather than a garden shed :)

That cuprinol catalogue is great for inspiration! Have been browsing it for ages!

Would have thought that polythene would be fine to line the pond with, though im no expert so someone else might know better!!! :)

And hostie, as soon as you make a little pond, you will find it attracts wild life immediately. When we dug out our big pond, we were then told by neighbours that a natural one had been there before! So it started filling up with water before we could even line it and my goodness, newts, frogs, toads were in within days even though we hadnt added plants at that time.

Oh, I would also add - check out your local free cycle, freegle group because when people clear their ponds they give away tons of plants on there for free.

As we had the digger in digging our pond out we seen two eels wriggling up the burn that it's aprt of :) Like you we've had toads newts etc, and to my joy yesterday a nice big pair of ducks had decided to make it their home :)

I am feeling very inspired about ponds now! Great idea to try Freecycle for plants.

You must have been thrilled kaschow when the ducks went into your pond. Somehow I think that whiskey barrel ponds will be a little less appealling to ducks :)

Now I am wondering if I should try for a bigger pond. I have a fairly big garden but no budget and alas, no greenfingers :o I do have lots of garden space to sort out and a large piece of thick blue tarpaulin.

Hmm, love this forum. Thanks for all the inspiration :)

and after a visit from a 32 tonne digger!!!

We're now putting a dams behind it to raise the level of the burn so we can have a little cascade into the pond, it has a three foot drop over rocks at the other end in the woods already. I've got absolutely no plants for it yet though, as I'm completely broke lol

It was really nice to see the picture of your pond this morning. Is it easy to upload pictures to the forum?

It would be lovely to see another picture of it later in the year when there are plants in it. How nice to have a burn in your garden.
