Poor Buddy put to sleep :(

I recently posted about my cat who had finally started going out...well he had been out for 3 days and I was beginning to get worried.

Found him in the garden crying yesterday....he couldn't walk on his back legs properly and then he began weeing blood.

Took him to the vets who kept him overnight and they suspected he either had cancer or had been poisoned :(

Got the dreaded call this morning and had to go and see him to say goodbye as there was nothing more that could be done for him :(

I feel so sad...he was only 2years and 3months...not that there's a good age to die but he was still so young and had really been loving roaming around in the garden :(

I don't know what else to write, but he was such a lovely little cat and I got him for Xmas in 2008 and he was so tiny and cute and used to sleep in my bed with me and paw my nose to wake me up to give him his breakfast!

RIP Buddy :( xx

Thank you smile, I suppose the one good thing is that he isn't suffering and he at least made it back home

  • I am so very sorry to read about Buddy. What a shock for you!

As you say, it's always sad, but somehow seems so unfair when they're still young.

    Thinking of you................

I can totally identify with the making it home bit...................here's what I posted a month ago

Opened the back door to see if my cat wanted to come in and she was laying on the doormat paralysed miauing like mad. Managed to get hold of emergency vet and got her in a box to take her to the surgery.

The vet checked her and thought she'd got a bloodclot on her spine, so gently suggested it would be the kindest thing to do.

I just keep picturing her being paralysed and struggling to get back home and that's what hurts so much.................poor, poor, brave girl.
I am so pleased she did tho' - at least DS2 found her on the mat and we got her to the vet's rather than her being somewhere suffering 'til she died and us not knowing.
Not sure I'll ever forget the way she looked at me, pleading for me to help her...........

I am so shocked...........my gorgeous girl is gone.

    RIP Taz xXx

Thankyou dundeedoll, it really is awful isn't it? He just went downhill so quickly, but at least he didn't suffer for too long - putting him to sleep was the kindest thing to do, it wasn't fair to try and keep him alive for my benefit. I keep wondering if I hadn't let him out if it would have been different, but he wanted to go out and I wouldn't have wanted to stop him. There's a lot of 'what ifs', but it doesn't change anything :(

  • No, it doesn't change anything, but you can't help wondering 'What if'

He obviously enjoyed going out - once he'd discovered it - and it was just very unfortunate that it happened............nobody's fault.

I was so so very grateful that it didn't happen to Taz the night before, as I was away and had left DS (16) on his own...........I was at the MSE Birmingham Meet.

    I am so sorry
It is so heart wrenching to lose a loved pet
I would have to have a house cat because I could never let them go out alone
I know people have lots of different views about this
but it would just be the same to me as letting one of my dogs wander free
    I couldn't bear it
I'd be worried sick all the time
I know that there are no words to help .....
